Roberts Middle School
GRIT: Volume 2
Dear Roberts,
Look at the open second-floor window between shutters in this photograph, and you will see two little boys. Do you recognize one of them? Yes, I know this picture was taken in 1865, so I am fully aware that you would need more information. The boy in this picture was watching the remains of the 16th president of the United States funeral procession. Roberts, most opportunities have expiration dates. If you miss it, they are often lost forever. You never know the impact you make on the lives of your students. I cannot overstate enough that in this moment of time, you can change the trajectory of many of your student’s lives, by your willingness to push them to the next level. Yes, it will not be easy. This means you have to be consistent in personalizing instruction, helping them see beyond their current limitations, and showing them compassion. The little boy in the picture will be the future president of the United State, who was none other than, Teddy Roosevelt. When looking down at his hero, President Roosevelt was six years old in this picture. Roosevelt said, “My great hero is Abraham Lincoln.” Roberts, this is an example of the impact you can make in any moment of time. Roberts, you are the heroes to so many kids’ lives and the opportunity is now.
Harvey is dumping so much rain in our area. I hope you are safe. Please call me if you need anything. I will be driving by the school to see if there are any issues.
