Dryden Dolphin Splash Newsletter
September 26, 2021
Dear Dryden Families,
We hope you have been able to enjoy another beautiful weekend! I'm excited to introduce two new staff members to Dryden.
Please help us give a warm welcome to Mrs. Kim Dyer, who is joining Dryden as itinerant PE teacher for Mr. Poliszczuk's and Mrs. Samuels' third grade classes. Mrs. Dyer formerly taught science at South Middle School and PE at Olive. She was also the PTA president at Dryden when her children attended our school. Mrs. Dyer will begin at Dryden on Tuesday, September 28.
Additionally, at their meeting this past Thursday, the Board of Education approved the hiring of Mrs. Cara Giacomin-Ferris as Dryden's new part-time assistant principal. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to Mrs. Giacomin-Ferris, too! Mrs. Giacomin-Ferris comes with experience as a music teacher from Barrington School District 220 as well as experience on school and district leadership teams for Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, School Improvement and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. Supporting a positive learning environment for students, families and staff that is nurturing, caring and welcoming is very important to Mrs. Giacomin-Ferris. Mrs. Giacomin-Ferris, will begin at Dryden on Monday, October 4.
You can see their photographs and get to know a little more about Mrs. Dyer and Mrs. Giacomin-Ferris as well as all of our staff members in our Dryden Staff Directory below. We look forward to another "wonder-full" week of learning at Dryden!
Sincerely,
Akemi Sessler, Principal

Walk to School Day, October 6
We’d like to invite all Dryden students to join a route and walk with our staff to celebrate
International Walk to School Day at 8:40 am on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2021.
The aim of this day is to encourage physical activity, healthier habits, environmental concerns, and safe routes to school. We hope many Dryden families will join us on this day as well as consider this a preferred option for getting to and from school, weather permitting, throughout the school year.
Please see the map below for meeting locations and routes. Dryden staff will be wearing spirit wear and ID badges so you can spot them. We look forward to walking to school with you!
Lost & Found
Masks
Bringing Your Dog to School?
Many of us love pets of all kinds! Mrs. Sessler has had dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, chameleons, frogs and more. Bringing pets onto school property, however, can cause some concerns. We do have students who are allergic to some pets. We also have students who are very afraid of dogs. If you do need to bring a pet with you to pick up your student, please keep your pet leashed and please clean up after it. Also, please know that some children are very anxious seeing a dog on school grounds. Thank you for helping our students feel safe at school.
RULER Parent Night, October 25
Halloween Costumes
We want all of our students to enjoy Halloween so as you are planning your child’s costume for our school celebration, please keep in mind that we are a kindergarten through fifth grade elementary school. Some costumes that may be deemed appropriate for older children or adults can be quite frightening to younger children. School-appropriate costumes should not include sharp objects, weapons, "squirting or dripping" blood, unnecessary gore, or anything violent or immodest in nature. Students may not bring any type of toy or real weapon (knife, gun, sword, light saber, claw, hooks, etc.) as an accessory to their costume. As a school, we model care, respect and acceptance, so please avoid costumes that target any cultural group or convey hatred towards any individual. Please consider selecting a costume that reflects an upbeat, positive theme. In the interest of safety, please help your child by selecting costumes that allow your child to walk and sit comfortably and allows your child to see where s/he is walking, since masks can can sometimes obstruct the student's view.
Please look for a separate email at the beginning of October detailing the Halloween celebration at Dryden.
