Message from the School Board

Dear School Community

You may be aware that our School Principal, Mr Mark de Kluyver, will be on leave for the entirety of the 2020 school year. In term 3, the Catholic Education Office advertised for qualified candidates to undertake the role of short-term principal for 2020.

The School Board represented our School & Parish community in this process, and given where our School is at in its journey, identified the following key elements in our search:

  • understanding of Students with Disability centres;
  • knowledge of Capital Development Planning, or ability to manage a CDP;
  • a focus on implementing our recently developed strategic plan;
  • understanding of how to engage our children in learning relevant to our School context; and
  • ability to build relationships with our community in a contemporary manner.

On behalf of the School Board, I was on the panel with our School Improvement Advisor (CEO) and an experienced peer principal, as part of a competitive merit-based selection process.

I am pleased to announce that Mr Geordie Thuijs was the successful candidate for the role and has been appointed Principal for 2020. It is testament to the capability of the School’s leadership team and their commitment to the journey our School is on.

Sincerely

Jonathon Woolfrey

School Board Chair

TERM FOUR NOTES

This week commenced with the Parent/Student workshop for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. as well as the retreat today for the students in Year Three. The sacramental programme is run by our parish, Our Lady of the Rosary. The sacramental programme runs very successfully, and we appreciate the work of the parish administrator Kaye Shervington who does so much to support Father Peter and Father Chinh, who themselves are a gift to our community. The parish mantra is ‘Welcome’ so do take them up on the invitation.

Our School Masses at the beginning and end of term are just that, with our children from Pre Primary to Year Six attending. We love company at these masses! Celebrating together in faith is a wonderful experience. Father Peter and Father Chinh make everyone very welcome.

Class Masses sees the children of a particular grade attend 9am mass, generally on a Thursday. Parents, including those who don’t have a child in that grade, are very welcome to join them. Father Peter has a standing invitation for parents and friends to join him for a coffee afterwards in the parish centre next door.

The Holy Rosary Community meeting on October 22 in the staff room is, open to all parents. The meetings are to the point and are a great opportunity to share thoughts about the ways in which the HRC supports our community.

World Teachers Day is on Friday October 25. Why not make a fuss of your child’s teacher!

The School Board and P&F AGM is on Tuesday November 19 from 5-6pm. This is a most important meeting, with reports presented by the Board Chair and Board Treasurer, followed by reports from our P&F President and Treasurer. The work of these volunteers is highlighted at this meeting. It provides a very real sense of the work done to make our community an ever better, ever stronger place. Your show of support by attending this meeting, is highly valued. Please be there if you can.

Grandparents Day is on November 15. We introduced this last year and is was incredibly well received, so we are keen to do it again. The format has changed thanks to feedback. Last year our visitors arrived at 11, visited the classes, had lunch with their grandchildren, then left at around 2pm.

This year, we will be inviting grandparents (or their representatives) to come at lunch time, have lunch with their grandchildren, visit the classrooms and then have the option of taking the children home at the end of the day – with parent permission of course! Let’s see how this change works.

The Christmas Concert on December 10 is a fabulous event! Everybody comes and we look forward to your company.

Year 3 MJR

Year 3 have been inspired by the words of Kid President and his list of ‘things we should say more often.’ Each child came up with one thing that they can do more often to make Jesus real at Holy Rosary and we would like to pass on their lessons to the rest of the school! By doing little things each day, we can live in the Spirit of Jesus and make the world a better place!
