Formative assessment is a powerful tool for teachers and students! This course will explore the assessment cycle focusing on the development and use of formative assessment to impact student learning. Participants will develop assessments to use in their classroom/environment.
Outcomes for the Course
Participants will:
- Understand and apply the assessment cycle.
- Explain the purpose of summative & formative assessments.
- Plan instruction using clear learning targets and success criteria.
- Develop formative assessments using various techniques.
- Provide and use feedback to determine next steps.
- Develop a plan of action for an upcoming unit.

How do I sign up for the class?
- Please sign up using My Learning Plan. You'll find the course offered under the district catalog.
When does the class meet?
- Thursdays, January 7, 2016 to February 28, 2015
- 4:30-6:30 pm
- Specifics about each week will be shared at the first class
- PDC at Jefferson Junior High School
- Google Classroom will be used for the course as well.
How many Internal University credits will I receive if I attend this course?
- 1 Internal University credit will be presented to all who successfully complete the course requirements.
What is the cost for those who want to attend for Internal University credit?
- $110 per person per credit hour
How many CPDUs will I receive?
- 16 hours of CPDUS will be available.
Can I get paid the hourly rate if I want to attend but don't want Internal University credit?
- Staff choosing not to receive credit will be paid $14 per hour for each of the hours of the course requirements at the conclusion of the course.
Meet the Instructors!
Kelly Neylon
Kelly Neylon is the Instructional Resource Specialist at Jefferson Junior High and the District 68 Gifted Coordinator. She has taught the Gifted Education Seminar as well other graduate level courses for Benedictine University!
Dana Murphy
Dana Murphy is the Instructional Resource Specialist at Edgewood School. She also writes for Two Writing Teachers and Choice Literacy, two nationally recognized online resources for literacy teachers.
Diana Parker
Diana Parker is the instructional resource specialist at Willow Creek Elementary School. She has a background in Early Childhood Education, English Language Development, Gifted Education, Reading Intervention, and Elementary Education.
