The Weekly WrapUp
And that's the way it was....
Happy Friday Bulldogs!
MVHS also celebrated our National Merit Semifinalists. Matthew Jurenka and Lauren Cline received notification this week that they were selected from over 16,000 students nationwide for this honor. They are among the highest scoring entrants on the PSAT in the state of Washington and represent less than 1% of the state's high school seniors. Matthew and Lauren are eligible to move forward into the Finalist level of the competition by demonstrating their high academic performance in college preparatory course work, submitting SAT scores that confirm their PSAT/NMSQT performance and being endorsed and recommended by a high school official. National Merit Scholars are eligible for financial awards ranging from $2,500 to $10,000/year depending upon institution and awarding body.
In addition to Matthew and Lauren's achievements, Grace Brown has been recognized as a National Merit Commended Student. While not advancing to the National Merit Scholarship competition, Grace has been recognized for her exceptional academic talent. She has placed among the top 50,000 scorers who took the PSAT last fall. "The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for the NMSC. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishment as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation."
These students accomplishments and successes are a tribute to the hard work and effort that all MVHS teachers and staff have implemented throughout the years. Thank you for all that you do for our students both inside and outside of the classroom.

National Honors Society
Four main purposes have guided chapters of NHS from the beginning:
1. To create enthusiasm for scholarship.
2. To stimulate a desire to render service.
3. To promote leadership.
4. To develop character in the students of secondary school.
Over one million students are estimated to participate in the National Honor Society. NHS and NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. They can also be found in areas of Asia; Pakistan has three schools maintaining an active chapter. They further can be found in international and American schools throughout the globe.
Since 1946, the National Honor Society has given out more than $15 million in scholarship awards.
