Scholastic Book Fair a Success!

Mrs. Entwistle, our school Media Specialist and CRT would like to thank all of our Dublin students and families for a successful book fair the week of December 7th-11th. Together we had over $10,000 in sales. The Dublin Media Center will be receiving a portion of this profit for the Media Program at Dublin. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who helped to set up, cleaned up, and spent time working at our book fair. We appreciate all of your support.

News from the Music Room!

On Friday, Dec. 11th, Mr. Bechler and the 5th grade students along with their classroom teachers and several chaperones headed down to the Detroit Opera House to attend the performance of “Too Hot to Handel” which has been described as “an exciting reinvention of Handel's Messiah, bringing this classic piece to life in a transformative way; fusing two of the most distinctly Detroit music styles - Jazz and Gospel - while weaving in Blues, Swing, Classical and even Scat.” The performance was made up of a 35 piece orchestra, 85 voice choir, and 3 soloists. Along with the outstanding musical production the students were able to experience the beauty of the historical Detroit Opera House. Prior to attending “Too Hot to Handel” the 5th grade students compared and contrasted the original music of Messiah that Handel composed in 1742 with the updated version. They also studied the concert etiquette that would be expected of them in this type of concert setting and then put that knowledge into practice at the performance.

Physical Education Notes from Mr. Hohlbein

As the end of the first semester quickly approaches, your little ones have been working really hard in PE class. My Kindergarten friends have enjoyed learning about running and how we can do more at a comfortable pace. Ask them what happens to our energy tanks when we start off going too fast. We are also finishing up our underhand roll/throw unit. We discussed what the four steps are to roll/throw using the proper form (Face, Swing, Step and Throw). Turkey bowling was the favorite game before the Thanksgiving break.

My 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have been dedicated to improving their cardiovascular fitness and abdominal strength. Learning to change up our fitness routines keeps our bodies guessing what is coming next and also keeps us from getting bored. They did a great job on the soccer skills of foot dribble and instep kick (power kick). Since the weather was so great this fall we were able to go outside to practice our skills and play some fantastic soccer games. We are now working through overhand throw.

Have a fantastic holiday and a happy New Year!

PE News from Mr. Yuhn

“Ready, set…whistle”

First and second graders at Dublin have been working very hard and having lots of fun in Physical education class. First grade has learned about and been evaluated on galloping, under-hand roll and foot dribble. They will complete the instep kick before winter break! Second grade has finished the leap, instep kick, under-hand throw and foot dribble. Second grade now knows five different square dances. Both of these grade levels have had many opportunities to enjoy “free-choice” play in the gym. Look for first semester physical education report cards soon!

Making fitness fun!

Mr. Yuhn

Teacher of the Year

Congratulations again to Mrs. Loveland, our Dublin Teacher of the Year 2015-16. It would be great to have many students, staff, and family members from Dublin there to support Mrs. Loveland and our school. Congratulations Mrs. Loveland and thank you Dublin community for your support!

Spring STRIDE and Girls on the Run Registration

Girls on the Run® and Stride are non-profit programs that encourage pre-teen girls and boys to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. These programs aren't just about finishing a race. They're about developing a lifetime of healthy habits and healthy living. Every participant learns valuable life lessons that include:
  • nutrition and fitness
  • goal setting
  • communication skills
  • making a difference
  • working as a team
  • character development

Girls on the Run is for 3rd through 5th grade girls. STRIDE is for 3rd through 5th grade boys. There is no need to have any previous running experience and kids don't even have to consider themselves athletic to participate. The great thing about running is that anyone can do it! You don't need lots of money or time to get in shape and learn a new skill. Come join the fun and experience the positive rewards of finishing a race and stepping across the finish line!

The Girls on the Run program will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00-5:15 PM, and Stride will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-5:15 PM. Both programs will start the week of March 14th and will run through May 19th.

Registration for Girls on the Run and Stride are handled through Carl's YMCA in Milford. Please click HERE to register. We continue to look for coaches. If you are a Dublin parent that would like to coach either group, please let Mr. Drewno know as soon as possible.
