West Sechelt Orca News
Feb 19
Greetings from the Orca Pod
This week there is a focus for Social Emotional Learning for our Grade 6 and 7 students. We will be having Children of the Street Society and Out in Schools to speak to the students about healthy relationships, exploitation, and LGBTQ Youth and supports that are available. We also have our Kindness Day (also known as Pink Shirt Day) on Wed, Feb. 24th.
Kindness Day
Kindness day is Wed. February 24th and we encourage all of our students to wear pink. We will be celebrating kindness with an assembly in the morning with encouraging and inspiring stories. Here are some Acts of Kindness you can do with your children.

Family Dance for Division 8 and their Buddies
March 3rd at 6:00pm Div 8 and their buddies have their Family Dance. We are looking forward to joining all the families out on the dance floor. The students have been practicing their moves!
Movie Night - Feb 25th
Movie Night hosted by the PAC is Thursday, Feb 25th. The movie will be The Good Dinosaur. Here is a synopsis.
Coming Prepared to Play in the Elements
Getting outside into nature and breathing fresh air is important for our health and our learning. We almost never have "inside" days during recess and lunch, so please make sure your children come to school prepared for all types of weather.
Kindness Day - Feb 24th
The theme for Pink Shirt Day is kindness so we felt it appropriate to call it Kindness Day this year. We will encourage students to celebrate acts of kindness and to be mindful of our key words: "respectful, responsible, safe & kind".
REPORT CARDS
Report Cards will be sent home on Friday, March 4th. Early Dismissal days are March 9th & 10th. Please make sure to meet with your child's teacher to hear about all of their learning. This is a valuable opportunity for you to get first hand information on how your child is doing.
PAWS Readers
We are delighted to have the PAWS Reading Program in our school. Many students have had the opportunity to read to Lily, and her owner, Jody. The smiles that Lily gets each week lightens up her 4-legged steps!
