Important Info from School Nurse about Head Lice -
There is generally a low incidence of pediculosis (head lice) in the Winona Area Public Schools. Even so, it is important to do regular home screenings. Head lice is not a sign of being dirty, it can happen to anyone, anywhere. There are a variety of different head louse that are approximately one-tenth to one-eighth of an inch long, have no wings, and do not fly or jump. Head lice are tiny insects that feed on human blood and make their home in the human hair multiplying rapidly, laying little round silvery egg cases (nits) which glue to the base of hair.
It is hard to see head lice, but you can see nits if you look closely. Nits attach to the hair shaft an inch from the scalp and like areas behind the ears and the back of the head and neck. Nits should not be confused with dandruff, as dandruff can easily flake off from the hair; nits are firmly attached and look like a grain of salt. Most people do not know they have head lice until they see nits. Telltale signs of head lice are persistent scalp itching that is accompanied by scratch marks or the appearance of a rash. If you suspect your child has head lice, please inform the health office staff.
Winona Area Public School head lice procedures can be found on the WAPS home page under District—Departments—Student Health Services—Head Lice
Please contact the school health office with additional questions at 494-2400 and ask to speak with Doreen Blank, Health Secretary, or Krissy Coudron, RN/Licensed School Nurse.

We will continue to have conversations with our students about what to do in the event of an emergency. This will include ALICE, evacuation, fire and severe weather drills.
If at any time, you have any questions or concerns about our crisis management system, please give Mrs. Eisner a call at Goodview. We appreciate your support in keeping all our students and staff safe at school!
