HOLY CHILD
NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER 2022
Principal Message
Holy Child is being painted this year! Beginning next week, division painters will begin the work of painting the inside of our school. To minimize learning disruption, classes will be moved to a temporary classroom while their classroom is being painted and common areas will be closed throughout the year as the painters move from floor to floor. We anticipate the top two floors will be complete in 5-6 months.
We would like to welcome Srta Carmen Ciudad Sevilla, a visiting teacher from Spain, to our staff. Srta. Carmen is primarily helping support teaching and learning in the Spanish Bilingual Grades 3-6 classes but is also covering teacher absences throughout the school, when needed.
We had a wonderful time at our Halloween Parade on Monday, it was wonderful to enjoy a Holy Child tradition as a school community once again! Today we invite you to join us to learn more about Dia de los muertos, an important tradition practiced in parts of Latin America that centers on celebrating the living memory of friends and family who have passed on. It is a beautiful event that is very much rooted in the Catholic All Souls Day tradition of remembering and praying for the faithful departed. We hope to see everyone tonight!
Sra. Pederson, Principal
Remember Lord, those who have died and have gone before us,
marked with the sign of the faith especially those for whom we now pray.
May these, and all who sleep in Christ, find in your presence light, happiness and peace.
Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

HOLY CHILD LEADERSHIP CLUB
Students from our Leadership Club had the opportunity to participate in the Leadership Symposium on Wednesday October 26 2022, where over 150 Elementary students from across our district were in attendance.
Students had the opportunity to build their leadership and collaboration skills in working with presenters from ECSD, AHS and other community partners through various sessions throughout the day. The day concluded with a planning session with their lead teachers where students were able to brainstorm and plan activities to take back to their school sites and lead initiatives throughout the school year.
We look forward to seeing all their projects and ideas come to life at our school this year!
OCTOBER ADVENTURES IN FRENCH KINDERGARTEN
During the month of October, the French Kindergarten class planted tulips in the schoolyard and look forward to watching them grow in the spring! We continued learning about colors through watching flowers drink up our special food colored water. We sang the Mat Maxwell song, "C'est l'Halloween" while sorting bones, spiders and pumpkins into groups. We had Dr. Phan and his assistant come in from Phan Dental and teach us about how to keep our bodies and teeth healthy during the Halloween season. We also had our special star students of the week do daily presentations in front of the class. At the end of the month, we had parent volunteers come and help us carve pumpkins. We had 15 volunteers come and help us out. Thank you to our volunteers for making our pumpkin carving event so special and fun! On the last day of October, we had a Halloween costume party. We played various games, we ate delicious food and we showed off our beautiful costumes!
