Principal's Notes
Thank you for entrusting your children to us each and every day. Thank you also for being involved in all aspects of your children's education. We encourage you to reach out to us with any concerns or compliments. The relationships with families are a strong part of what we do, and we know the students benefit from solid communication between home and school. Thank you for all you do as parents on behalf of our students and the staff at PVES. It was wonderful to see the support for families in need through our month of giving and Coins for Kids.
We had a fun time today at our assembly and classroom parties. Look for pictures and video on our Facebook page!
I hope that you are all able to pause from hectic holiday season to enjoy your time with family and friends. We looks forward to all being back together in 2019!
Specials Report - Gym Classes - Mr. Moser
This past month in P.E. has been a whirlwind of activity. We started off with two weeks of hockey skills and games. This has to be one of the students favorite activities. I was impressed by the ability of students to understand and execute high level skills along with taking proper safety precautions. At the end of the unit we played mini games of hockey in which we emphasized respect and sportsmanship.
After hockey, our classes had round two of fitness testing. Throughout my years teaching and scoring fitness testing, I usually see a slight drop in scores during the winter time. Some reasons are obvious; students don’t get outside as much, so stamina decreases. This is also cold and flu season, so many students aren’t feeling 100 percent. However, this year I saw the majority of students increase on the pacer and curl-up test.
The week before break students in P.E. participated in a snowman relay, running man challenge, dots and dashes contest and an assortment of tag games. (See pictures above.) This time of year is exciting to see the enthusiasm of students and the generosity many show! I hope everyone has a great break with friends and family!
5th Grade
5S is involved in Book Clubs in Reader's Workshop. The students are reading a variety of novels in small groups with a focus on character development and theme. Students really enjoy reading and discussing their books. It is something they look forward to every day.
