Sabercat Update
Message from Mrs. Koop
We take the safety of our Sabercats and their families seriously. All students, regardless of proximity to the school are afforded the opportunity to ride a school bus. If you as a family choose not to use that as your option, then the campus has the responsibility to safely and orderly reunite students with their parents at the end of the day. In addition, neighboring campuses, also have the right to do the same, as well as, have access to their facilities and/or parking lot before and after school without interference.
As I communicated earlier to all parents and guardians, we are not able to use the Cypress Ranch parking lot before and after school. We also are not allowing students to walk to the curb to get in a car.
As we all work together to make dismissal safe and orderly, I can not allow a few to circumvent the policies we have set forth, while others follow the policies. We lead by example, regardless of how inconvenient the procedures are. Enforcement of rules are the same for all of our Sabercats, and the school community expects that rules apply to all.
Please reflect, if we allowed students run to a car on the street, there are unsafe incidents that can and have occurred.
I greatly appreciate your help as we work daily to keep our students safe.
Regards,
Becky Koop
TikTok & Cyber-Bullying
We have had several reports of various TikTok accounts that reference Smith Middle School. We shared with students that these sites need to be removed, due to the inappropriate comments and postings. These accounts have material we deem as cyber-bullying.
The administration will investigate any allegations of bullying, cyber-bullying and related misconduct. The district will also provide notice to the parent of the alleged victim and the parent of the student alleged to have engaged in bullying.
If an investigation determines that bullying occurred, the administration will take appropriate disciplinary action and may, in certain circumstances, notify law enforcement.
We shared with students that this would not be tolerated and we will be enforcing the consequences for such actions to the highest extent allowed by the Student Code of Conduct and Board Policy.
Please be vigilant in checking your students social media accounts. This is for their safety and the safety of others.
