February 2019
Principal's Message
We have wrapped up 2nd quarter and are ready to begin 3rd quarter strong. Report cards will be coming home soon. Please review with your student these indicators of performance and effort. Celebrate the positive and improvement. Recognize and strategize areas for needed improvement. Your encouragement and guidance is key.
We are beginning the process of enrolling students for kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year. Registration will be on March 12th from 8:00am-3:00pm. Please use the link below to set up a tour if you or anyone you know has a child that will be entering kindergarten for the year 2019-2020, or contact the office for more information.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask that all parents and guardians please make every effort to have their children to school on time. Also, if students are leaving early or have a change in their transportation please send a note with changes to the school in the morning.
As always thank you for your support and dedication to Lewisville Elementary. If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or praise, please contact the office at 336-703-4224.

Dressing for COLD Weather!
Winter has arrived!
While greeting the students each morning we are noticing that many students are not appropriately dressed for the season. Many students come to school without gloves, hats, and in some cases, coats. Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. Students often go outside for short walks and activities; therefore, it is essential that they wear proper clothing to school.
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of blacks in U.S. history. The event was the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating black history.

Heart Health Awareness Month
As you all may know, February is Heart Health month. To help bring attention to heart health let's all try to:
1) Get moving 60 minutes a day, five days a week
2) Pledge to put into place TWO good nutrition practices (i.e. Drink more water, eat more fruit, eat more vegetables) a day for the 28 day challenge-Feb 1- Feb 28.
3) Wear red on February 1, 2019.
Why do we wear red?
The first Friday of February has been designated by the awareness campaign, Heart Truth, as National Wear Red Day ® in the United States. On this day, men and women are encouraged to wear red as a symbol of their support of women’s heart health. According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (N.I.H.) in the U.S, Coronary Heart Disease is the “#1 killer of women in the United States”. The day, which was first observed in 2002, aims to bring national attention to this fact, and to raise awareness of women’s heart health.
Educational Leave Requests
If you plan on taking your child out of school for an educational trip, please ask your child’s teacher or go on the school office or online for an educational leave form. This must be returned to school approved by the principal prior to the date of the trip. Please note that requests need to be made at least 2 weeks in advance in order to be considered for approval and should reinforce the Common Core Standards.
For further information and for the Educational Leave Request form, please click here.
