Sawnee Elementary
November 2022 Newsletter
A Note from Mrs. Davis
Dear Sawnee Families,
November is upon us and this is a wonderful time to express our thanks. We are thankful for such a giving and supportive Sawnee Family. We are thankful for amazing staff and students. We are thankful for the incredible partnership with PTO and our community. Please take a moment to give thanks to someone who has impacted you.
You may have noticed the letters on the marquee have been removed and we don't have any messages posted. Well, the exciting news is we are getting an electronic sign at the Spot Road Connector entrance! A big thank you to Forsyth County Schools for helping make this happen. We hope to have it up and running by January. Tune in to the newsletter, website, and social media for upcoming events and messages.
Speaking of messages, this is a reminder we no longer have free meals at school. We understand the auto-generated messages from MyPayments Plus isn't working properly, so please check your student's account balance. We are trying to send home letters, but sometimes we just aren't fast enough.
Encourage your students to check the lost and found frequently. We have built up quite a collection and we know you would like the items returned to their owners.
Thank you again for the opportunity to serve at Sawnee. If we can help in any way, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Davis
Principal

What's Happening at Sawnee?
7 Mindsets - Attitude of Gratitude
The Attitude of Gratitude Mindset teaches us the importance of seeking the positives from every experience and being thankful for all that we have. Through this mindset, we learn that we can use the positives or the negatives of our lives as the foundation on which to build. Choose the positives, and we are on our way toward extraordinary success; choose the negatives, and we embark on path toward disappointment, resentment, and suffering. In these lessons, we guide students to focus on all the things they have, leaving no time to be distracted by what they don’t.
The four components of Attitude of Gratitude are:
1. Treasure Yourself
2. Be more Grateful
3. Thank it Forward
4. Elevate your Perspective

Potatoes and Sweet Potatoes
Potatoes are a tuber vegetable. They are a nutrient-dense powerhouse, and provides the energy, potassium and vitamin C you need to fuel your day. Potatoes are naturally fat-free, cholesterol-free and sodium free.
Sweet Potatoes are a root vegetable. They are high in fiber and antioxidants, which protect your body from free radical damage and promote a healthy gut and brain. Sweet Potatoes are incredibly rich in beta-carotene, which is converted to vitamin A to support good vision and your immune system.

Clinic News
It’s that time of year where fevers, colds and illness are on the rise! We are seeing an increase in flu and strep cases throughout our community. If your child has been diagnosed with any contagious illness such as flu, strep throat, stomach bug or COVID, please notify your student’s teacher.
Our clinics are in need of gently worn girl pants size 5-8, boy pants size 8-adult small and all ages of sweatshirts. We are always in need of 5oz cups and Ziploc sandwich bags. Thank you so much for all the support you have given our clinics! We so appreciate you!
**Just a reminder that all medication needs to be brought to the clinic by a parent/guardian. Students are not permitted to carry medication at school per Forsyth County School Policy.
Forsyth County Schools are in need of Substitute Nurses. If you are a RN or LPN and would like more information, please contact Nurse Robyn or Nurse Kate. We would love to have you!
We always welcome your calls and emails. Nurse Robyn (PreK-1) RFreeze@forsyth.k12.ga.us and Nurse Kate (2-5) F36415@forsyth.k12.ga.us

~ School Attendance is very important to the success of each student.
Sawnee Elementary has a “Strive for Less than Five” unexcused absence per year policy. We support every student in reaching his/her greatest potential and encourage parents to support children in maximizing academic instruction opportunities. Some of the potential consequences of absenteeism are listed below. We understand that injuries and illness occur. As such, parents should send in a doctor's note for necessary absences.
