Casey's Kids Fun Run
The Casey's Kids Program started in 1997 when Janie Casey, a former counselor with the Keller Independent School District, discovered that a student was limiting the number of school days attended per week due to a lack of clothing. It was this student's need that led to Ms. Casey's mission to find a way to fund the clothing needs of students in need district-wide. Named in Janie's honor, the Casey's Kids Fun Run began as an effort to provide clothing and has now expanded to include other items such as school supplies and household needs. Funds are distributed to these families by KISD counselors. Funds are at an all time low right now and we need help raising more money to help families right here in KellerISD!
Join Coach Dunson, Angie May & Stori Johnson!!!! Please sign up! This year's event will be on Saturday, March 30th! Just click HERE to register as many as you can to either walk or run in the event OR as a virtual participant.

Let's Keep Growing in 2019! Check this Out!
Culture of Growth: Trust & Change
You have already explored the importance of relational trust in a school community. (If not, please review the last newsletter.) Now it is time to examine the role that trust plays when school communities are faced with a great deal of change. If, as Maxwell says, "change is inevitable" but "growth is optional," then what role does trust play in supporting the change process and promoting growth in individuals?
Learning Targets
- I can explain the role that trust plays in leading change and promoting growth.
Watch: Building a Community
Watch the video below and reflect on the questions below. Remember: A leader is defined by behavior, not by position.
- Of all of the changes occurring in your school, which ones do you consider to be first-order change? Which do you consider to be second-order change? Use this document for support: Two Types of Change.
- What are you doing as a leader to support teachers through the change process?
- What are you doing as a leader that may not be supporting teachers through the change process?
- How are the behaviors that you identified helping to build relational trust in your school?
- How are these behaviors promoting growth in teachers?
What's in the Works for the 19-20 School Year
- SEL Pilot Campus - the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
- AVID Elementary - Children learn about organization, study skills, communication, and self-advocacy. AVID Elementary students take structured notes and answer and ask high-level questions that go beyond routine answers.
- NWEA/MAP - The assessments give you a thorough picture of student learning: how much they’ve grown, what they’re ready to learn, and the specific skill gaps they need to master. It is connected to the TEKS & provides intervention resources! The MAP Suite is made up of three components: MAP growth, MAP Reading Fluency & MAP Skills. At this time, I am not sure which components we will have access to. We may get all three! Assessments will take the place of AimsWeb Plus and District Common Assessments (DCAs) in Reading & Math.
At this time we are projected to have 5 classrooms in each grade level next year. That means we get to add a teacher to our 4th grade team! As I have said to each of you during your MOY Data Talks, if you are interested in another grade level please let me know. I've never been one to move a bunch of teachers around for the sake of change however I do like to know if there is an interest before I accept any transfers or post any positions.
