This Car Changed America!
The Model T put America on wheels, created mass mobility, revolutionized mass production, established the American middle class and eventually reshaped the country's physical landscape with suburban sprawl. Over a two-decade run more than 15 million were built, more than any other car in history except for the Beetle. The Model T's two-cylinder engine produced 20 horsepower. The car could cruise at 45 miles an hour at a time when that speed felt plenty fast on America's rough roads. It got 15 to 20 miles on a gallon of gas. It was the first car with fully interchangeable parts, which made repairs easy and inexpensive. Model T's became such an American staple that "The Original Ford Joke Book" was published in 1915.
Henry Ford's Model T Debuted 100 Years Ago
Born on July 30, 1863, near Dearborn, Michigan, Henry Ford created the Ford Model T car in 1908. After a few trials building cars and companies, in 1903, Henry Ford established the Ford Motor Company. Ford introduced the Model T in October of 1908, and for several years, the company posted 100 percent gains. However, more than for his profits, Ford became renowned for his revolutionary vision: the manufacture of an inexpensive automobile made by skilled workers who earn steady wages.

In the period from 1910 to 1918, Ford became increasingly anti-immigrant, anti-labor, anti-liquor and anti-Semitic. Ford wanted to assert that there was a Jewish conspiracy to control the world. He blamed Jewish financiers for fomenting World War I so that they could profit from supplying both sides. He accused Jewish automobile dealers of conspiring to undermine Ford Company sales policies.
