Dunning Book Swap!
Thank you to everyone for sending in so many wonderful books! We can’t wait to give them new homes.
We could use a few parent volunteers to help us hand out the books on December 19th. The Book Swap will be running from 9:15-3. Please email Brett Berkman (bberkman@framingham.k12.ma.us) if you can come help! We could use your help even if it’s only for an hour or so! Thank you!
Fostering a Love for Reading: What do you carry with you?
Brett Berkman, Literacy Coach
Many of your children are tasked with reading at home for 20-30 minutes a night (depending on the grade level). This task is important because the more our students read, the better readers they will become!
If finding a 20-30 minute time block seems overwhelming, rest assured, you can break the time into smaller chunks and try reading on the go! Throw some books in your bag when you are running out to practices, errands, or even grocery shopping. If you and your child find yourself with five minutes here or there -- waiting for practice to start, in the line in the grocery store, or sitting in traffic - pick up a book and read! Reading beats being bored waiting! And you can read anywhere!!
Try having your child read on the go and snap a picture! Pease email these pictures to me at bbekrman@framingham.k12.ma.us and I can share them on our Dunning Twitter Feed or Facebook page! Let’s celebrate reading!

winterfest
Each year Dunning students and staff enjoy a special Winter Concert event known as “”Winterfest”.
Grade levels are encouraged to wear a specific color (if possible), to show our school spirit and Panda Pride. This year, the grade level colors will be the same for both Winterfest and Field Day which will take place in the Spring.
The 2018 Winterfest Grade Level Colors are:
K-Yellow

readathon
On Thursday morning, December 20th, Dunning classes will come together for our annual read-a-thon to benefit The Jimmy Fund. It gives us an opportunity for a learning experience as well as a way to connect to our community and do something for those less fortunate than ourselves. Last year every teacher at Dunning joined in and the entire school was reading all morning!
The Jimmy Fund supports the fight against cancer in children and adults at Boston’s Dana Farber Cancer Institute. It is helping to raise the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world. Since 1948, $750 million has been raised toward Dana-Farber's ultimate goal - eradicating cancer and related diseases. We especially like this choice as it gives kids a chance to help other kids! If you would like to read more about this, we encourage you to visit the Jimmy Fund website at: http://www.jimmyfund.org/about-us/about-the-jimmy-fund/
Teachers will personally pledge one penny for every minute each student spends reading. Students are invited to bring their sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, slippers and of course a big pile of books for cozy, comfortable reading.
The students are very enthusiastic and several wanted to sponsor themselves! Of course, they need to discuss that with you. However, if you would like to sponsor your child, please feel free to do that. We are hoping to beat last year when we raised a whopping $1,050!
SPRING 2019 MCAS SCHEDULE
Below is the Spring 2019 MCAS testing schedule. We will be testing each morning on the testing days. It is important that we have excellent attendance during all testing sessions, so please avoid making appointments during the school day if at all possible. Each session starts at the beginning of the school day.
It is important for all students to be
IN ATTENDANCE and ON TIME.
Winter coat/snow clothes drive
Winter has arrived! Did you scramble to find snow clothes to fit your kids this morning? For some of our families the scramble is more of a struggle and we would like to provide some assistance in keeping all of our Pandas warm and dry this winter. If you have any kid sized snow clothes (hats, mittens, boots, snow jackets and snow pants) that are clean and usable please help us get them to the families that need them! There will be a collection box in the lobby.
Please only donate useable kid-sized snow clothes!
THANK YOU!!

CARE & SHARE
The Jane Shapiro Care and Share began in 1995 as a Dunning School community service project. Each month a specific food item is collected at the school to help keep A Place to Turn's shelves stocked. What a great sharing and learning project! Donations are gathered up by the students and then with help from staff, they are delivered to A Place to Turn. Learn more about A Place to Turn here.
Thank you for your contributions to A Place to Turn during the year. Our monthly food collection makes a huge difference in our community, while teaching our students the importance of giving.
