A Note From Mrs. Waters
ASAs and Labs will be cancelled on Wednesday, April 27 due to parent conferences.
Help the Earth Chart - Earth Day Challenge
On Sunday, first grade had an earth day principal session with Ms. Lana and Ms. Mindy. They now have a challenge, titled: I May Be Small But I Can Still Help The Earth! You will find it in your child's home folder. Students are encouraged to fill out the chart over the coming weeks and bring them back to school by May 5th. Please encourage your child to participate in this challenge. Students who participate will be recognized as an Earth Hero!
We will be beginning our last math unit, Unit 6 “Revisiting Operations," next week. Please read the attached parent letter. A hard copy of the letter is in your child's home folder so that you can help him/her with the strategies we will be working on in class.
There are many school announcements, so please be sure to read them below.
Reading
Students will discuss and show what they have learned about their book club topic from reading across genres.
Writing
Students will be working on writing reflections for their portfolio and preparing for student led conferences.
Math
Students will compare word problems and extend their knowledge of numbers to 100.
Science
Students will continue to experiement with how matter can change states.

Library Used Book Sale
The Elementary library is hosting a used book sale April 26 - 28. All books are 5 QR and the proceeds go to a learning center library in Nepal. They will take donations.
The last Scholastic Book order will be held from April 25th through May 1st. Catalogs will be sent home on Sunday, April 24th. This is a great opportunity to find some great titles for summer reading.
April 24-26 @ snack/ recess: Hockey Shoot Out
LES and UES students can take their chance at swinging a stick at hockey pucks against some talented UES goalies! It costs 5qr for 3 attempts, and if you make at least one goal you win a small prize. All funds will go to Robert's school in Kenya.
Shukran Committee
The Shukran Committee will be placing large water bottles in the hallways during Student-Led Conferences next week. The money collected will fund our end-of-year dinner for all ASD workers (cleaners, bus drivers & monitors, cafeteria workers, guards, etc., etc...) This is our way to say thank-you for all of their hard work and dedication. Your support is greatly appreciated.
ASD Fine Arts Show
Starting May 1st, enjoy 19 days of beautiful student artwork. Random selections from PreK4-IB art are on display in the ES main corridor and the HS Fine Arts area so you may take a quick glance at what’s happening in the art rooms at ASD. The students are very proud of the work they have created and we hope you take a moment to explore our galleries. Attached is a flyer.
2015-16 Yearbook Pre-Orders
It is that time of the year to Pre-order the 2015-16 Yearbook. A great way for your son or daughter to remember the school year is with a yearbook. The Pre-order yearbook sales have started on Sunday the 17th of April and will go until April 28th at ES office. Students and parents can also pre-order the yearbook during student Led Conferences on April 27-28 at LE/UE hallways. The Price of the yearbook is 100Qr. and the deadline for the pre-order is 28th of April. Please note that for any order after the April 28th, the cost of the yearbook will be 120Qr. and will be sold on a first come first served basis. If you wish to buy one, please make sure there is 100Qr. on your child's dragon card. You can top up accounts at https://dragoncard.asd.edu.qa/index.asp. Your Username is the family ID, which is on the parents ID, and the Password is the same. If you required any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the ES office.
Lower Elementary Math Parent Drop-in
Our Math Coordinator, Mrs. Carol Little will be holding a Lower Elementary parent drop in / office hour every Wednesday from 2:00 – 3:00pm. Mrs. Little will be available at this time every week to assist parents who need further information about our Math program or who would like help / suggestions with how to support their children at home. It will be held in Ms. Mindy Martin’s office.
