OUR STORY - Shout Outs!
Wilson County Schools Weekly Highlights - Oct. 1-5, 2018
WCS Receives Shout Out! from NC Dept. of Public Instruction!
Our Reigning TOY and POY
The Wilson County Board of Education recognized Teacher of the Year Leigh Anne Orr and Principal of the Year Krystal Cox on Oct. 1. Ms. Orr and Ms. Cox received their titles on June 7 at a special banquet, but the Board wanted to officially recognize them once the school year began. We are so fortunate to have them as a part of our WCS Family! Also a huge Shout Out! to Stocks Photography for capturing their beauty inside and out!
Chip Chip Hooray
Superintendent Dr. Mills is making special deliveries to the 10 schools that excelled last school year. This week he visited Rock Ridge ES, WECA, WAAT, Gardners ES, Lucama ES,
Frederick Douglass ES, New Hope ES, Forest Hills MS, Beddingfield HS and Hunt HS to make sure the staff members knew they were - All That and a Bag of Chips! A special Shout Out! to Brewmasters for donating the chips! Pictured are staff members from Frederick Douglass ES.

Spirit of WAAT
Pheonix Everett, a junior at the Wilson Academy of Applied Technology, was recognized by the Board of Education for his efforts to enhance school spirit. This year at WAAT, there is a new student organization called WAATLife Ambassadors. Its purpose is to inspire leadership and empower students to become spokespeople for WAAT. One of the main goals is to create a positive school culture. Pheonix took the assignment and ran with it. Through advertising on Snapchat and Google Classroom, he created unity among all grade levels by suggesting weekly Spirit Days - like Dress to Impress Day. The participation has grown from 18 students to now over 50 each week!
Warrior Pride
Hunt HS Teacher Lisa Lewis is this year's recipient of the Noma Henderson Leonard and Elsie Brame Hunt Honored Educator Scholarship through NCCAT. The scholarship enables her to attend a week of professional development. Gov. Jim Hunt and his wife established the scholarship in honor of their mothers. Ms. Lewis shared that the scholarship means so much because of her connections with the Hunts and Hunt HS - she attended school with the Hunt children, was one of the first group of graduates from Hunt, has taught at Hunt for 17 years and now has a daughter who teaches there. Her Warrior Pride runs deep, and she is a worthy recipient!
