EDUCATOR OF THE WEEK
Congratulations to this week's Educator of the Week, Mrs. Jane Williams. Mrs. Williams is one of our dynamic Kindergarten Teachers at the South River School (SRS).
Since joining the District in the fall of 2002, Mrs. Williams has made a huge impact on some of our youngest learners. Her classroom is friendly and engaging and she constantly uses a variety of instructional strategies to best meet the needs of her students.
SRS Assistant Principal, Amy Fultz described what makes Mrs. Williams so special when she noted, "Mrs. Williams is the quintessential kindergarten teacher who is amazing in so many ways! She is warm, nurturing, and enthusiastic when it comes to teaching our youngest students during their formative years. Mrs. Williams has a deep understanding of child development and age-appropriate educational strategies to help all her students succeed. She fosters student independence by giving children self-confidence and helping them develop essential life skills. Mrs. Williams is compassionate and creative all while having an endless pool of patience! Her classroom is a positive and exciting learning environment that keeps our youngest learners engaged."
Ms. Fultz went on to add that, "A parent recently sent an email about Mrs. Williams saying, "My daughter is having a blast and the transition from preschool to South River was seamless thanks to her and the rest of the staff at SRS. She absolutely loves school and loves all of her teachers, especially Mrs. Williams. My daughter said, 'She is the best teacher because she helps us learn. I like the affirmations!'"
The SRS and her Kindergarten students are so fortunate to have Mrs. Williams as a teacher and we are thrilled to have her on our team. Congratulations Mrs. Williams!!
NAVIGATING ASPEN & CANVAS FOR PARENTS & CAREGIVERS
Please join the Marshfield Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) for an interactive tutorial designed to benefit all parents and caregivers in Marshfield.
What: Navigating Aspen & Canvas for Parents and Caregivers
When: Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 6:30 pm
Where: Presentation Center at Marshfield High School (Enter through the gym/auditorium doors and follow signs)
Who: For Parents and Caregivers (not students)
This will be an in-person, Bring-Your-Own Laptop*, interactive event. We will begin with a short presentation and then will proceed with an interactive session on the computers to help everyone navigate Aspen and Canvas. These platforms are used more extensively and differently as the students progress through the grades so this will also help you prepare for those moving up to a new school.
* Aspen Accounts: Please verify that you have a working Aspen login prior to the event. If you need assistance, email Aspen@mpsd.org by October 16th to request your login information. A limited number of Chromebooks will be available to borrow.
For planning purposes, please click here to register.
This event is sponsored by the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC). All of our events are open to everyone and this presentation in particular will prove helpful to all parents and caregivers throughout the district. We hope you can make it.
Click here to visit the SEPAC website which lists all our events this school year, and provides resources, and information related to special education, testing, IEPs, neuro-divergent learners, and much more.

HOMEWORK FREE VETERANS DAY WEEKEND
While we are still a month away, I wanted to let you know that once again, in honor of Veterans Day, the Marshfield Public Schools will be Homework Free over the Veterans Day weekend.
We started this tradition eight years ago and going “homework free”, in conjunction with Veterans Day has been greatly appreciated by students and staff, our families and, most importantly, our Veterans.
The district continues to focus attention on the social-emotional well-being of our students and staff, and by adjusting their homework schedule for Veterans Day, so that nothing is assigned over the Veterans Day weekend, we are making an impact on our educational stakeholders. Annually, the issue of homework is one that has generated discussion across the region and it has been reported to teachers and administrators that schedules and stress levels tend to grow as the year progresses. We hope that these homework free nights can help relieve some of that stress.
More importantly, each year we have used this time away from homework to allow our students and staff, and their families, to focus on the importance of recognizing Veterans Day. In lieu of homework, it is our hope that members of our school community, as they have done each year, will find the time on Veterans Day (or over the weekend) to thank a Veteran they may know for their service to our country. The person they reach out to could be a relative, a neighbor or a friend.
In addition, if members of our school community can attend the Veterans Day Parade & Ceremony on November 11th at Veterans Memorial Park, I know that the dedicated group of men and women, who have given so much to our country would greatly appreciate the gesture. As a district, we like to say “WeRMarshfield” and this simple gesture is just one more example of our community coming together to honor some very special people.
