A Note from Ms. Owens

Hello Charger Families,

So many people have shared such generosity to the staff at St. Catherine. Thank you to Mrs. O'Connor and Mrs. Reynolds for a fabulous lunch for the entire staff on Monday! It was delicious! On the first day of school Mrs. Buczko and Mrs. Hansen brought breakfast treats for the staff. It was a much appreciated lift to the start of our day!

And, of course, thank you to Mrs. Stanke for Wednesday evening's ice cream social. The turn out was excellent, the rain stayed away, and the kids had a blast playing. I'm happy to share the winners of the raffle from the ice cream social. Thank you to all the families who participated. Your support of the St. Catherine community is invaluable.

  • Congratulations to the Zielinski family -- winners of the $250 tuition credit.
  • Congratulations to the Connolly family -- winners of a free sport registration
  • Congratulations to the O'Connor family -- winners of a $50 hot lunch gift card.

Our security door is in full working order. Parents and other guests will now The doors will be locked and parents and other guests will need to be buzzed into the school.

Tomorrow is a busy day at SCA. It's our first full day of school. We will also celebrate our first all-school mass of the year. After school extended care begins. And we will dismiss at 2:45 PM.

The teachers, staff and I all look forward to seeing you next Wednesday, August 28 for Back to School Night. We will begin in the gym and the evening will run from 6:30 to 8 PM.

What's Happening with Gym Class During the Renovation?

Due to the church renovation, through the month of September, gym classes will be held outside or in classrooms as dictated by weather conditions. We also know that this time of year can bring very warm temperatures, and Mrs. Franks has a plan to provide students the chance to move and burn off energy without running around. On those very warm days, Mrs. Franks will be talking her classes - 3rd through 8th grades only - on a walk for gym class. The path they will walk is pictured in this post.

If you have concerns about this for your student(s), please let us know.

Lunch Parents Still Needed

Following Packet Pick Up, we realized that we are still in need of several lunch parents so we have adequate supervision. Lunch parents help ensure a safe and orderly lunchroom for our students.

Supervision is needed from 11:20 to 12:35. Parents can work from one to five days per week, and lunch room parents earn tuition credits for each lunch they supervise.

Church Renovation Update

Phase I began the first full week of August. Items from the church have been moved to the gym to be used in masses or placed in storage. As of the end of last week, all the pews have been removed, and several have found happy homes with parishioners.

The next steps will include removal of carpeting and tile, and this involves asbestos abatement. All abatement work will be done after classes have been dismissed for the day. During the abatement process, the church doors as well as the vents will be sealed, and the HVAC (air conditioning) will not be in operation. Abatement work will not involve the vestibule; entry and exit will happen via the wooden doors off the back parking lot. The official notification regarding this abatement project is at the button below this section.

We know families are concerned about the hot weather that often accompanies the start of the school year since we will not be able to use the church. Because masses are being held in the gym, we won't be having gym classes there and will be able to use it as cooling center. Additionally, once the HVAC in the church can be turned back on, we can use the vestibule too.
