KSAT Great Graduate Series
KSAT 12 was at Samuel Clemens High School the morning of April 12th to profile three seniors for its Great Graduate series to run in late-May and early-June.
Gracie LaGasse was diagnosed with severe plaque psoriasis as a young girl, but is overcoming her medical condition to rank 44th in her graduating class and earn a full scholarship to Texas State University this fall.
Betty Stout, who is in the International Baccalaureate program, has been living without her parents involved in her life since she was 12 years old. She has also overcome a medical condition similar to rheumatoid arthritis to finish in the top 20% of her graduating class. She has been accepted into the University of Houston and plans to someday own a business with the specific intent of hiring victims of domestic violence.
The final senior profiled was Matthew Williams. Matthew is in the top ten percent of his graduating class. He has a rare muscle disease, diagnosed as multiminicore myopathy, which causes severe muscle pain and weakness in his lower legs, abdomen and eyes. His condition has caused him to miss school, sometimes for weeks at a time. Matthew plans on pursuing a degree in the health profession to become a pediatric hemotologist. He has been accepted into numerous schools, including Texas A&M, Brigham Young University, and Abilene Christian.
