Superintendent Update - May 7, 2021
Dear Families and Staff,
This week, Los Angeles County moved to the yellow tier, the least restrictive tier in the state, which signals a shift away from the Blueprint for a Safer Economy framework that was implemented near the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. With continually declining COVID-19 case rates and increasing vaccination rates, Governor Newsom, the California Department of Education, and LESD continue to plan for the 2021-22 school year with a focus on maintaining Safe, Clean, & Ready campuses.
Vaccination Update
Now that everyone age 16+ is eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, we encourage families to get vaccinated. This Saturday from 9:00am - 4:00pm, the Beach Cities Health District’s AdventurePlex clinic located at 1701 Marine Avenue in Manhattan Beach will be taking walk-up appointments for the Pfizer vaccine. To find nearby vaccination clinics, visit vaccinatelacounty.com or myturn.ca.gov. To learn more about the COVID-19 vaccines and their effectiveness, please visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.
Thank You Staff
Throughout this month, we acknowledge and share appreciation for the hard work of our dedicated teachers, classified staff, nurses, and administrative professionals. Last evening, Trustees formally passed resolutions to recognize how proud we are of our dedicated staff that work to serve the students of the Lawndale Elementary School District.
21st Century Learning Environments
As we look ahead to the 2021-22 school year, we are focussing our efforts on Providing 21st Century Learning Environments (District Goal 4) that are safe, clean, and ready for in-person instruction. With one-time federal funding that LESD is receiving, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to further this goal beyond our other efforts, which have included:
Our IT department ensuring that all students have devices and hotspots.
Our teachers adopting 21st century instructional practices and communication platforms.
Now, we are able to purchase updated furniture for classrooms, instructional spaces, elementary libraries, and outdoor spaces. This will allow us to have state-of-the art furniture throughout the district that is reflective of 21st Century Learning and Safe, Clean, & Ready standards.
