A Message from Ms. Lilly
RNE Newsletter October 13th, 2016
The Principal's Office
Dear RNE Family,
I hope you enjoyed the long weekend!
The IOWA Assessment will be administered online for all of our third and fifth grade students. Therefore, the county has extended the testing window from October 17th through November 4th. Due to the assessment being given online we will utilize 2 weeks with a morning and afternoon session. Our 5th graders will test the week of the 17th and 3rd graders the week of the 24th. Our 5th graders used the online platform last year for Georgia Milestones so we are confident they will do well. Our 3rd graders are also well versed with using the computer for STAR testing, which will help them with this test.
We will utilize the additional days for make-up testing as needed, but all of our regular activities such as BEAR Dads, lunch visitors and other volunteers will resume on October 31st. Thank you for allowing us to create a positive testing environment.
Many of you know that in addition to ensuring at least one year’s worth of academic growth for each student, student safety is at the top of my concerns. I wanted to clarify information regarding transportation changes for students.
Changes to student transportation must be made in writing with your signature. When making a transportation change (after school activity, daycare instead of car rider), please make sure to include the following information:
Student’s first and last name
Teacher’s Name
Normal way home
Transportation change
Dates for change
Parent or guardian signature
Our bus drivers work very hard to make sure students have great experiences while in their care. Our transportation department ensures that bus drivers have student contact information for all students assigned to their bus. This allows them to contact parents in the event of an emergency. For student safety, our board policy states-
“Pupils will ride on assigned buses, board, and debark at their designated stop. Parents may request in writing any exceptions to this rule. Requests must be made to the Transportation Department. In case of emergency, the principal may authorize a student to ride a different bus or change bus stops:
No requests shall be approved for social activities or projects.
Requests involving childcare shall be given consideration only if there is room on the bus.”
Many of our buses are quite full so adding additional students is difficult. I appreciate your support as we return students safely to you each day!
Take time to enjoy the upcoming weekend!
Best,
Maureen
