Highlights from last week!
Last week we learned how to sign in to the Woodridge Library to access and check out eBooks and audio books! The great thing about this is that we can have our eBooks anywhere we go, and we don't have to remember a due date! We will use them during Daily Five time as a "read to self/listen to reading" option, as well as for quiet reading time at home and school!
In math we continued practicing the various forms of numbers, as well as practice with automaticity of math facts. You will see that coming home each week. While this won't be a graded piece, having that automaticity with addition and subtraction facts will benefit the students as they begin to tackle problem-solving.
The students have done a great job with reciting the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence! We have learned about important events in our country's history (a very basic synopsis of 300 years!), and what life was like before and after the United States became a country. Schoolhouse Rock has become a favorite in our class, especially "No More Kings" and "Fireworks." This will be our segue to learning about the Constitution and branches of government.
Finally, we had a big Friday, with a Breakout box as a sneak peek into the Global Read Aloud project. We did a Mystery Skype with a third grade classroom in Wisconsin, and we will be collaborating and sharing ideas with these students as we read The Wild Robot. The Global Read Aloud is such an authentic way to connect with other readers and talk about literature in a fun and engaging way!
