Motors
At The Sochi Olympics
Olympic Rings
Motors were used to open the Olympic Rings at the opening ceremonies. Motors were connected to batteries, and as the motors turned, the rings were able to open. Because the motors turned, pieces of the rings were pulled away from the center, causing it to unfold.
Irony
Although it is ironic that some of the motors at the opening ceremonies did not work, it shows the difficulties of technology. Not everything is perfect even if it is as simple as a motor.
Did You Know
When broadcasting the opening ceremonies in Russia people I ideally saw that one ring was not working. TV crews fixed the problem by overriding the screens with a video from practices where the rings opened without a problem
