Wellness Week!
Wellness Week is a week-long program of events and special offers designed to engage the students in learning about and experiencing ways to improve their physical and emotional health.
During this week, we focused our morning meetings in 4 aspects: healthy body, personal hygiene, healthy choice, and healthy mind.
On Monday, children discussed how to keep their bodies healthy and then describes their favorite way to exercise.
On Tuesday, we explored germs and how they spread. It was a fun experience! We met Mrs. Sneezy, a little girl who came to school sick one day and sneezed all over everyone. In the end we helped Mrs. Sneezy remember that we cough or sneeze, we cover please! Also, we experimented how germs spread by rubbing a glitter-filled moisturizer all over our hands and then tried to get it off. Moist glitter is almost impossible to wash off! We explained how germs were a lot like glitter, and if we wanted to get rid of them we needed to wash our hands properly.
Wednesday was dedicated to Healthy Food Choices. Children learned why food is the most important fuel for our bodies. Then on Friday, they even tried different fruits and vegetables to encourage them to try new things and eat the colors of the rainbow!
And last but not least, today was all about keeping our minds healthy. One way of having a healthy mind is to feel safe, loved and included. Children discovered how words and actions have an effect on friends, family, and themselves. We watched a video that encourages positive behavior by using the concept of an invisible bucket to show children how easy and rewarding it is to express kindness, appreciation, and love by "filling buckets". Everyone received a "Bucket Filler Certificate" for their exceptional kindness!
Take a look, and enjoy!
