Principal's Update - Mary Quigley

Kristine Dudlo visited all the classes in the morning to introduce herself and children. Now will have a face to go with her name. She is excited to see that they love reading as much as she does.

Ms. Dudlo will also be at Kindergarten Orientation to introduce herself to parents at that level. Stay tune for more dates as she prepares for her coming to WAS.

WAS PTO President's UPDATE Michelle Lease

Hope everyone has a terrific Memorial Day Weekend! We have a very busy week when we return. Looking forward to seeing everyone that has offered to volunteer for Field Day on Friday, June 3. Enjoy the time with your families!

LAF news for 3rd graders

The third graders will have an opportunity to meet their new principal, Cheryl Russo on Tuesday, May 24th when she visits Washington Avenue. After Memorial Day, they have an opportunity to visit Lafayette on Thursday, June 2. All classes will be walking to LAF to meet the teachers and students and get a tour of the building. Please make sure your child wears sneakers since it is a walking trip.

This year's theme for field day is an Olympic Size Food Drive. We will be collecting canned goods to benefit The Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in East Orange.

Beginning Monday, May 23rd, we will begin a school wide competition between grades. Bins for each grade will be set up by the front entrance. Go for the Gold, Silver, or Bronze and earn extra recess or pajama day for your grade!

Donations will be tallied throughout the competition leading up to field day. You can track your grade's progress on the special Olympic Bulletin Board! Third, Second, First or Kindergarten/ CHIP… who will reach gold first?!

The flowing items are always appreciated (No glad please):

Canned or Dried fruit

Canned Meat

Evaporated Milk

Macaroni and Cheese

Pancake or Muffin Mix

Juice Boxes

Jello or Pudding Mixes

Field Day Reminders

LUNCH- Please don't forget to return your child's Field Day BBQ order form. There will be no other hot lunched served on Field Day. Students may also choose to bring a brown bag lunch. The BBQ is provided for 1st-3rd grades as kindergarten does not stay for lunch.

TEAM COLORS - Students will be bringing home information on which team color they have been assigned. On Field Day, please have your child wear as much of that color as possible. Remember to also dress weather appropriate and apply sun screen as a large portion of the day is outdoors.
