Arts Magnet Weekly News
Week 35 for Families and Community May 2-6, 2022
A True Labor of Love!
Dear Eliot Arts Magnet Families,
Thank you, thank you, thank you to the incredible Jungle Book cast, crew, parent and staff volunteers who made this past week possible! We not only pulled off our first large scale public performance in over two years, but we created our first ever K-8 production. Wow, wow, wow! The love and warmth, the camaraderie and jubilation were palpable.
We are so grateful to our Superintendent, Dr. Brian McDonald, Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Elizabeth Blanco and all the PUSD Board members who came out to show their love and support for our students.
Look what we can accomplish when we join together! I am deeply grateful to our entire Altadena Eliot Arts community for what we did for our students. There is joy once again in our magnet schools!
And now on to our final few weeks of school!
This week:
State Testing begins on both campuses. 3rd-8th graders will be testing. This is not fun, nor particularly engaging but it does give us a good data point to see where students are after potentially 2+ years of learning loss. Please make sure students are:
a) on time to school
b) have had a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast
It's Teacher Appreciation and Nurse's Appreciation Week!!! Please send your child's teachers some gratitude. This has been the toughest time to work in education in our lifetimes and our teachers and para-educators, along with our health office staff have been overworked, under appreciated and in some cases vilified. Our PTSAs on both sites, as well as myself will be spoiling our staff this week, but if your heart calls you to do something special for our teachers and health office team, please feel free.
Tuesday Night is 8th Grade Parent Night at 5pm in the auditorium! First hear from the incredible, Dr. Lawton Gray, Muir Principal about all the wonderful opportunities for students at Muir Early College Magnet High School. Then hear from the Eliot team about 8th grade activities, eligibility and promotion. We can't wait to see our 8th grade families there!
It's a great week to be an Eliot Husky!!
Yours in Service,
Dr. Scheckel, Principal
