People do not look at Simon as a normal person. They make fun of him and don't like him because he is different. He isn't like the other boys so people just treat him like he isn't a person at all.
God has a plan for all of us no matter what happens.
Simon believed this because even though things happen ( him being born with a disease that stunts his growth) he believed there was a purpose for him. Being how he is, a very short small boy he could make a big impact on other people.

Simon had lots of his own opinions and some people did not care for or appreciate them. In this picture he said "What does coffee and donuts do with God". The Sunday school teacher did not like him expressing his opinion. He has gotten in trouble a lot with the pastor, he has caused lots of things to happen in the church.
Joe's mom's death
Simon feels ashamed and horrible that he killed Joe's mom. Even though Simon did such a bad thing it was an accident and Joe forgave him. Many people loved Joe's mom very much and cared for her, she was a very kind and caring person.
Joe was searching for his dad ever since his mom wanted to find a different man for his father. He got really desperate to know who his dad was after his mom died. Joe didn't want to be alone and he felt like there was someone out there for him.
Joe's mom's death
Joe finding his dad
Joe found out that his father is the reverend. He did not take it to well. Joe was very upset and confused. He wanted to know why his mom didn't tell him. Joe thought his dad would be this wonderful person that would be so perfect but he didn't even like the reverend.
All of the kids where coming home from the retreat and the bus swerved a deer and drove into the river. All of the children where screaming, crying, and freaking out. The bus driver was all for himself so he saved his own life and left the children behind, so Simon and Joe took over and started to get the kids out to the land where it was safe. There was one kid left but the door got stuck so Simon made his way to the window to help the child out. He made it safely out, but for Simon it was to late. The bus had already gone under the water. Simon somehow made his way up to the surface of the water.
After the bus incident Simon was sent to the hospital but he was expected to die. Joe came to visit him to say goodbye. Simon had a plan for himself, that was to be a hero. He fulfilled his dream and was a hero. Simon died being who he wanted to be.
