Welcome

Welcome incoming 6th grader to your new favorite school. The transition from grade school to middle school can sometimes be tough, especially if your coming from a small school to a big one like East. Hopefully from this flyer, you'll learn a lot about your new favorite school.

Your New House

Like all schools, East promotes academics above all, but big schools sometimes faces the issues of students having to walk a long way from class to class. Luckily for you, East came up with a way to put all your classes together, even better, in your own house. East is basically made up of houses. There are 6 different houses at East, and each one has it's own purpose. A house is made up of glass walls, and behind each wall is a core class, such as math, science, ELA or social studies. Houses bring many positives to the field of learning. One of those positives is that houses cut down bullying. They do this because each grade (6-8) has their own house, so theirs less of a chance that you could get picked on by a 7th or 8th grader. Not that that could happen, East is a great school after all.

Your Daily Routine

Unlike your previous elementary school, you can have up to 9 different teachers and classes in one day, so it's a good thing you have a wonderful consoler who makes you a schedule. Your A and B days will begin with your first two classes (With 4 minutes passing time in between), then it's time for lunch. After the first 10 minutes of lunch you have the option to go into the gym and get all of your energy out. After that, the you will go to your third class of the day, the it's time for encore. Encore is 40 minutes long and is just for reading. After that comes your final class of the day, and then it's time to go home. Every A and B day you will have one elective, but on C days, that's a whole different story. C days are when all your classes are only 40 minutes long, but you have every class that day

Electives, Clubs and Sports

Along with great academics, East has a lot to offer. Sure, you have to take the regular standardized core classes, but you still have some choice of what you want to take, and those classes are called electives. There are many electives to choose from:

  • Facts
  • Orchstrea
  • Band
  • Drama
  • Commputer Applications
  • Physical Education
  • Art
  • Chrior
Your consoler (Mrs. Hensley) will ask you what classes you want to take, But you'll have to narrow it down to four. Near the middle of the first quarter, clubs and sports will start up. Clubs and sports don't all start together because of the different schedule and because they are all lead by your busy teachers. Clubs able to be joined by a 6th grader are:

  • Archery Club
  • Homework Center
  • Running Club
  • Quiz Bowl
  • BUM Crew
  • Art Club
  • Reading Club
  • Gitutar Club
  • Star Wars
  • Teens for Christ
  • All Pro Dads
You won't get to start sports untill next year, but at least you'll have time to think about what you'll want to do and practice. So here they are:

  • Cross Country
  • Football
  • Wrestling
  • Basketball
  • Track
  • Volleyball
Hopefully that you'll find one of the clubs or sports appeling, and want to start them soon.
