Art Splot

Our first art class was held yesterday. Thank you to all the parents for supporting this valuable educational opportunity.

Note from Mrs. Burke

Dear Parents,

Thanks for sending your kids ready to learn and to be great students this week. We had a successful week and look forward to continuing on this positive path for the rest of the year.

You may have heard about our visitor at school today, Bear. Bear is my 4 month old Golden Retriever. The trustees on the LaMotte School Board have given me permission to bring him to school daily. Today was a good test for all of us! It is the intent of my family to have Bear trained to be a therapy dog. As he gets older, we will participate in training for him and for us as his handlers. As a therapy dog, Bear will be a calming presence in our school for our students and staff. Therapy dogs provide affection and comfort to people in hospitals, retirement communities, rehabilitation centers, schools, and other places where people are seeking comfort.

The students did great with him and Bear is completely worn out, so that’s good. We do have a few rules that will keep the students safe and keep Bear healthy and happy to be at school. Bear will be on the playground, occasionally as well as in classrooms at times, otherwise he will be in my office with me. I want the students to be able to interact with him as much or little as they choose.

If your child has an allergy to dogs, I can make sure that Bear does not go into your child’s classroom (unless you give permission). Please communicate with me if your son or daughter is allergic, or if you have questions or concerns, please let me know. I want this to be a positive experience for our students. Thanks for having an open mind about our “school dog”!

Thanks,

Mrs. Burke and Bear

Box Tops & Labels for Education Program

Welcome back to school! We will be participating in both the Labels for Education and the Box Tops for Education™ programs again this year. Send clipped labels to school with your child as you collect them and I will submit them. Sign up at BTFE.com to get coupons and stay updated on our school’s earnings. Money raised from Box Tops is used by the Parent Group to fund projects at the school and Labels earnings can be used by the teachers to get supplies for the classroom. Thanks for helping!
