From the Principal...
Happy New Year!
We are off to a great start in 2017 and are loving the positive approaches to learning that our students, staff, and families are taking to start the new year! Our 5th graders are applying for different leadership positions within the building. Our staff is busy sifting through data to ensure best practice at all times, and our intermediate grades continue to prepare for state testing. We are very busy at Thompson Crossing! We appreciate your continued support of our school. Please continue to encourage respect for staff, other students, and accepting responsibility for one’s actions. We encourage this as well.
Together, we can make a difference!
Warmest Regards,
Jeffrey J. Murphy
REMINDER: NO SCHOOL MONDAY, JANUARY 16TH AS WE HONOR DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
Counselor's Corner...
During the month of January, the topic of my classroom guidance lesson will be Personal Body Safety. We will be discussing good touch/bad touch, what to do if someone is hurting you or someone you know, and identifying adults that each child can trust to go to for help. It is important that children learn at a young age that their body is private and they have a right to say no to any kind of touch, even if it is as simple as a hug. My goal is to make sure they are safe at school, home, and in their neighborhoods. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at danielle.york@ftcsc.k12.in.us or 317-860-4600.
Thank you,
Danielle York
Tips for Parents at Report Card Time
Take time with your children to review their report cards.
Let your children tell you about their grades. Listen and respond in a calm manner.
Praise your children for specific accomplishments like attendance and being on time.
Ask your children to tell you what they can do to make better grades.
Make a plan to improve grades with your children and teachers (as necessary).

Reminders from the front office...
Student Drop-off/Pick-up
For the safety of our students, it is important that all persons picking up or dropping off students use the proper procedures. Students may not be dropped off before 8:40 a.m. With security procedures, the front door will not be unlocked until 8:40 a.m. and students should not be allowed out of an automobile until that time. We also understand that the drop off line gets long in the morning, but please be patient and take the time necessary to make it safe for all our students, parents, and staff. When dropping off students before and after school, please use the main entrance area only. Make sure that you follow the drive through and drop off lanes. Also, make sure that students get out on the curb or left-side of the car. There is no passing in the drop off lane. Your patience is always appreciated!
Recess Procedures During Winter Months
During the cold weather months, we are advised to use discretion and good judgment as to whether or not students will go outside for recess. Children should be exposed to fresh air and exercise. Time spent outdoors allows students an opportunity to engage in activities that allow them to relax from the structure of the classroom, at least for a short while. However, there are times when it is not safe for students to be outside. Please use the guidelines below as a tool for when school recess and other outdoor physical activity may be modified. The following conditions are considered in determining outdoor recess:
*Temperature
*Wind chill
*Condition of the playground
*Precipitation
With these conditions in mind, please be sure to send your child with the appropriate clothing [i.e. hats, mittens/gloves, boots, snow pants, scarf]. Please note that when the temperature and wind chill falls below 0 degrees students are kept indoors without further consideration.

Residency and Educational Rights...
If your family is in an extreme living situation such as; living in a motel, car, campsite, shelter, temporary housing, combined housing, public places, etc. you could qualify for a McKinney –Vento (homeless) Act.
Please contact your school counselor to discuss ways we can possibly help support your situation.
Students who are in homeless living situations have the following rights:
1) Immediate enrollment in the school they last attended or the school in whose attendance area they are currently staying even if they do not have all of the documents normally required at the time of enrollment;
2) Access to free meals and textbooks, Title I and other educational programs, and other comparable services including transportation;
3) To attend the same classes and activities that students in other living situations also participate in without fear of being separated or treated differently due to their housing situations.
Any questions about these rights can be directed to your school’s Counselor, Miss York.
Art on Display...
We are proud to say that some of our TC students will have their ART WORK on display at the Franklin Rd. Branch Library through January. If you are there stop by and take a look at their amazing work. Great job Eagles!
