Lincoln Crossing Colt Connection

August 13, 2019 - Welcome Back Colts!

Mrs. Hladun's Tidings

Class lists are posted, our teachers are busy at work preparing for the first days and weeks, curriculum is being delivered by the truck load and there is excitement in the air! The first day of school is almost here! We can't wait to welcome your child/ren to school/back to school on Thursday!

Some students may feel a little anxious about the first day...and that's okay - everyone on campus feels butterflies about the opportunities and challenges that are inherent in a school year. Here are some tips on how to help your child relax a little and feel optimistic instead of nervous about the first day or week(s) of school! Let us know how we can support you and your child!

Please be on the look out for a Colt Connection every week. Typically they come out at 7 pm on Sunday evenings. They are distributed via email, and on social media. You can find each week and prior editions on our website: lces.wpusd.org > Parents Tab > Stay Informed subtab > Colt Connection.

We can't wait to see you all on Thursday morning. Please take a minute to review this important information so that the first day is wonderful for everyone!

Back to School Night (BTSN)

TK, K and 1st Grade will host their Back to School Night BEFORE school starts - on Tuesday, 8/13/19:

  • AM TK: 5-5:30 pm in room D101
  • PM TK: 5:45-6:15 in room D101
  • Kinder (AM & PM): 6-7 pm in the MPR
  • 1st: 6-7 pm in the Library

Grades 2-5 will host BTSN after school begins, on Thursday, 8/22/19. Watch for details on the times and logistics the week that school starts. You can anticipate that BTSN will run from 5:30-7:15 pm if you attend all session options.

Please remember that BTSN is a "parent/guardian only" event to allow us all to focus on the important material being presented.

School Supplies

Supplies are always much appreciated, but never required.

Live Scan Service at Back to School Night & PTC Playground Night!

Per our district policy, in order to chaperone a field trip or to work with students without direct supervision from a teacher, volunteers need to be LiveScanned and have a current TB test on file. A LiveScan is good in any school (elementary, middle & HS) in WPUSD and does not expire, so you can take care of it now and never need to worry about it again!

Sunset Notary is providing the LiveScan service on our campus during Back To School Night to our families for a great price. How awesome is that - it's less expensive, no appointment is needed & there's no driving around! We appreciate their service!!!

Next Steps:
1. print and fill out the LiveScan form: http://bit.ly/WPUSDLiveScan (copies will be available on site, too)
2. come to campus during Back to School Night (BTSN) or Playground night and look for the Sunset Notary booth

- TK, K and 1st grade BTSN is on Tuesday, 8/13; Sunset will be here from 4:30-7 pm

- 2nd-5th grade BTSN is on Thursday, 8/22; Sunset will be here from 4:30-7 pm

- Playground Night is on Friday, 8/30; Sunset will be here from 5-7:30 pm
3. bring your payment (see details below)
4. bring your driver's license or state issued ID

The DOJ charges $32 to process a LifeScan and Sunset Notary charges $17 for their processing fee. Sunset Notary can take cash ($49), check ($49) or debit/credit ($51)

Spirit Wear

Our amazing PTC has launched an online spirit wear store - you can order any time, all year long, and all items are direct shipped to you! There are many design options and plenty of color and shirt options to pick from! Check it out: www.lincolncrossingspiritwear.com

Air Quality and Recess

It will be a warm start to the year. We will be monitoring the air quality carefully each day. In the event that the air is deemed 'unhealthy for sensitive groups,' we will make an indoor play space available for students. If the air quality is in the 'unhealthy' or higher range, we will offer only an indoor recess. If your child is in a sensitive group, please be in touch with the office and your child's teacher so he can best support him/her.

Parking & Drop Off

It will be very congested the first days and weeks of school. Please visit our website to view a map that identifies appropriate areas for parking and areas where you can safely drop your child off/pick your child up.

We provide supervision from 7:55-8:10 am and again from 2:40-3 pm (1:40-2 on Mondays). We find it is less congested before 8 am and after 2:50 pm.

This year, you'll see some new signage out and more student greeters ready to help your child out of the car. We ask you to keep two thing in mind - stay in your lane and pull all the way forward to make drop off/pick up as easy as possible!

Help Keep our Kids Safe! Stay In Your Lane & Pull All the Way Forward!

Starting our Day - Grades 1-5

Students will be welcomed onto campus at 7:55 am. When students arrive, they will go directly to the blacktop with their backpack and find their teacher’s line-up spot (it will be identifiable by a sign or in chalk on the blacktop). We will start heading to the classrooms at 8:10 am, and class begins at 8:15 am. TK and Kinder families - we'll share information about drop off with you at the Kinder Back To School Night on Tues., 8/13.

If your child(ren) walk or ride a bike/scooter/skateboard home, please encourage them to be careful, walk with a buddy and use the crosswalks. All children under age 18 who are riding a bike/scooter/skateboard must wear a helmet per CA law.

We’d ask that if you bring your family pet with you to drop off your child, that you do not take the animal past the blue dots to ensure everyone feels safe. Animals cannot be brought onto campus per district policy.

Families Coming Onto Campus

Families are welcome to join their children in the morning on Thursday and Friday without getting a visitor’s badge. On Thursday, we invite you to walk with your child’s class to his/her classroom. Families of our older students, please say your goodbyes at the door; families of our primary students, please take care to exit the classrooms between 8:20 and 8:30 am, and then to head out to our main patio (in front of the administration building), where our PTC will have coffee and donuts (and maybe tissues!) for our families to enjoy.

Beginning on Monday, 8/19, all family will need to pick up a visitor's badge in the main office before entering campus with their child or to meet him/her for recess or lunch.

End of the School Day - Grades 1-5

Our end of the day bell rings at 2:40 pm for grades 1-5 and PM TK and K. (AM TK and K dismiss at 11:20 am). Your children will be so excited to see you! It’s important to start establishing a meeting spot or plan for after school.

  • Children who are getting picked up by a vehicle will be waiting for you behind the blue dots between the administration building and the MPR or behind the blue dots between the back of the administration building and the kindergarten playground.

  • If you are picking your child up in a vehicle, please plan to drive through our main driveway to collect him/her. We always do our best to keep the traffic flowing.

  • When you come into the driveway, please stay in or directly next to your car. Do not leave your vehicle unattended unless it is in a parking stall or along the exterior community streets.

  • If your child(ren) walk or ride a bike/scooter/skateboard home, please encourage them to be careful, walk with a buddy and use the crosswalks. All children under age 18 who are riding a bike/scooter/skateboard must wear a helmet per CA law.

  • We’d ask that if you bring your family pet with you to pick up your child, that you do not take the animal past the blue dots to ensure everyone feels safe.
