Democracy by Sofia Merladett-Larroca
A democracy is a type of government that is made by the people. For example, in the United States of America we get to choose our leaders of our country by voting. The largest amount of people that vote for a person gets to be the President (the person that everyone votes for). To vote you need to be 18 yearsand older . The democracy consists of three branches: the Executive Branch, the Judicial Branch, and the Legislative Branch. These branches don’t have much power. These branches influence the way our government is.
Each state, town and country have responsibilities. One of the responsibilities of the federal government is to make sure to have fair laws. Another responsibility that the federal government has is to control the economy of the country. One of the most important job that the federal government have is to make sure that national security is secured. They also need to make laws for our country by using the Judicial branch, Legislative branch and the Executive branch.
The local government controls the library, fire department, police department, parks, public pools, public recreation, and ect.
One of the responsibilities of the state is to make sure that everyone that lives in that state has a education. The state also has the responsibility of making sure that the roads are all safe for the drivers in that state. The roads need to be maintained clean. Transportation is also very important. The state controls the trains and buses that ride along that state.
Government affects the way we live in today. For example, without a government we wouldn’t have laws. A government helps people be safe and have rights. The people that live in the United States have rights and have a fair government. Other countries don’t. Their life is different than ours because of the government they have. Government affects the way our life is everyday. It is affected by the way the government stands.
The bill of rights is a document stating the rights that the people that live in the United States have. The bill of rights are also made by Amendment. There are ten Amendments to the Bill of Rights. Though there are more than ten, only ten are stated in the Bill of Rights.
The First Amendment says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” This means that congress can’t make a law that doesn’t let people have the right of practicing their religion. It also means that the people that live in the United States have the right to peacefully have the freedom of speech.
The Sixth Amendment states “In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed; which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor; and to have the assistance of counsel for his defence.” This means that everyone has the right to have a fair trial if anything happens.

The Supreme Court makes the judicial branch . The Supreme Court has nine justices they are Sonia Sotomayor, Stephen G. Breyer, A. Alito, Elena Kagan And at the bottom row Clarence Thomas, Antonin Scalia, the chief justice John G. Roberts, Anthony Kennedy, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. This branch decides if the laws are fair. The justices job is to decide if the country’s laws would go against the Constitution. The Constitution gives some responsibilities to the Judicial Branch that other branches don't have.
