What's Happening in Yearbook

Week of September 8-12, 2014

This week in Yearbook we'll be finishing our Yearbook Yourself portraits, setting up our logins for the Herff Jones online design program, and taking the final vote on this year's theme. We will add 5 news words to our growing list of vocabulary, and we will continue to use Kid Blog to share our writing with each other in a digital forum. On Thursday we will spend the class period learning about the events of September 11, 2001 and recognize the courageous acts of first responders, remember those who lost their lives, and understand how our nation has come together to rebuild and move forward 13 years later.

Week of September 15-19, 2014

This week kicks off with our volleyball and football season openers! As always, Yearbook staff is encouraged to attend school events when they can, but it is not required. Also, it is the student's responsibility to communicate with their parents to make any arrangements for attendance and transportation, the school does not provide transportation to or from events for Yearbook Staff. I will be attending both home games this week and will be there to provide guidance and technical support for any Yearbook staff members photographing the event. In class this week we will spend time reviewing the duties, responsibilities, and goals of event photographers, as well as taking a closer look at our available cameras and equipment. We will also explore the different settings and functions on our cameras, discuss which ones are most useful for indoor/outdoor photography, action photography, and the do's-and-don'ts of flash photography. In addition to this, the Yearbook staff will be invited to participate in a 9/11 Remembrance project hosted by my Broadcast Media students. Participation in this project is voluntary and not required, but I strongly encourage any students interested in taking Broadcast Media to get involved! More details will follow later this week.

The following section is a list of Upcoming Events. There is an option to RSVP, which is useful for getting an idea of how many staff members will be, or are interested in, attending an event, but by no means will it be used as a binding contract! I understand how quickly things can change! The RSVP option is mostly just a helpful tool for me to get an idea of which kids would like to be there to take pictures.

"Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving.

What you have caught on film is captured forever...

It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything."

We Need Old Magazines and Newspapers!

Any chance you have some old magazines laying around? How about any newspapers? Instead of letting your print media pile up in stacks around the house, send it our way!

It's always a challenge to hunt down enough newspapers and magazines for each student to utilize in class on a regular basis, so every little bit helps. Even if it's just one copy of the newspaper from the day before, we can always put it to good use in Journalism!

Let's face it. Kid Blog is awesome and we all love using it for class, but it can be a little tricky getting there! These direct links should help everyone get to the right place a little quicker.

You can add your class's link to your favorites, make a desktop shortcut, or add it to your home screen on your mobile device!
