Big picture

Greetings CALA Parents & Families!

This begins our 7th week of school. We are all working very hard to strengthen behavior and academic foundations and close achievement gaps for students.

Students have been working to share their strong habits to our district leaders through speeches, songs, and other demonstrations. Please help us continue this work by doing the following:

  • ensure your child is here on time, everyday, all day. We begin announcements at 7:55 a.m. and instruction begins daily at 8:00 am. When students arrive late, they are missing out on valuable information
  • have students read on their own each night for 20 minutes. Set the timer. If they are not reading yet, they can listen to a story read by you or online. They can tell you what is happening in the pictures and practice how to hold the book, read from left to right, turning pages and respecting the book, etc.
  • ask students to tell you how they are using their leadership habits at school and at home

WE NEED YOUR HELP - In order to keep everyone safe, please do not walk or send your child walking across any of our campus parking lots in the morning. This is dangerous as cars are exiting the drive. Anyone who is walking, parents and/or students, should stay on the grass, walking past the playground and come to the gym door on the side to be screened and let into the building. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this.

Check out a few images below from our week! I look forward to our continued partnership.

Silent Dismissal to Begin Sept. 20th

In an effort to further streamline and safeguard our car rider system, we are are updating our dismissal procedures. The campus will begin a silent dismissal system on Monday, September 20th. The pick-up locations for students will not change but how we call students to the pick-up location will. In the coming week you will see your student come home with a tag attached to their backpack with their name, a number, and a designated of how they are picked-up (i.e. bus, daycare, walker, car rider). Please leave these tags attached to the backpack as they will be an essential part of our silent dismissal. If your student does not typically bring a backpack, please make sure they start doing so. Please let us know if you need support getting a backpack for your child.

You will also have new mirror hangers coming home with your student (see photo) which will replace the paper car signs we have been using. Each student will receive 2 mirror tags. If more are needed, they can be purchased from the front office for $1. Hint: You can retain the paper car tags and use as “extras” should you need to distribute to other family members but be sure to add the number on the mirror tag beside the student name on the car sign as the number is the key component to our silent dismissal. More information will be coming during our upcoming parent meetings and as we near September 20th.
