What is a fungus?
A fungus is eukaryotic decomposer that it found in the enviorment that reproduces by forming spores. A fungal infection is any infection caused by a fungus. Fungal infections are treated with a variety of antifungal drugs. The type and dosage of drug given will all depend on what type of fungal infection you have and the location of the infection.
Ringworm
Ringworm is a common fungal infection caused by an exposure to contaminated soil. It usually appears in patches and is very itchy and scaly.
Athlete's Foot
Athlete's foot is a fungal infection that occurs between the toes. It is common in locker rooms and public swimming pools.
Thrush
Thrush is a common infection in infants. Having certain illnesses, being pregnant, smoking, and having a weakened immune system make you more vulnerable to getting thrush.
What types of diseases can fungi cause?
Fungi can cause many different types of infections. Athlete's foot is the most common type of fungal infection. Histoplasmosis is a fungal infection in the lungs caused by an exposure to bird droppings. Yeast of candida is another type of fungal infection that caused thrush and vaginal yeast infections. Ringworm is a very common type of fungal infection caused by an exposure to contaminated soil.
