I'm Fine . . .But Are You Really?
For many, I see their smiles and their excitement to be here with their friends. They show up with smiles, ready to give us a fist bump. But there's more . . . I see students entering our building angry before the day even starts. They pass by with a reluctant fist bump, frowns on their faces. I see students who aren't confident; they pass by with their heads down barely making contact with us. I see students who have eyes that reveal sorrow and pain. Many times when I ask if they are doing alright, they reply, "I'm fine." But I'm fine never really means fine. How many times have you hidden the truth with "I'm fine," but in all reality nothing was fine? In reality, it felt as though your world was falling apart.
Be aware of your students and the adults around you. Don't except "I'm fine," if it doesn't sit right with you. Check in with them further, if they don't want to talk in that moment, assure them that you are there for them if and when they are ready to talk. More and more the world seems to be placing a great deal of pressure on individuals and many times, especially for our students, they have no idea how to handle it. They need to know we care. They need to know that we see them, see their pain. They need to know that we are here ready and waiting for them when they want to talk. And in the meantime, we need to do everything in our power to help turn their day around. Greet them with smiles. Greet them with, "I am so happy that you are here today." "I love having you in class." Show them they make a difference. Show them that even when life seems tough, they are strong enough to face any challenge that comes their way. Show them they are not alone and never will be.
Forward Test Reminders
- Staff meeting this week Wednesday is on testing tools and samples: You will be given resources to help you prepare your students for taking the test. We will be discussing expectations in regards to how we will work together to best prepare our students.
- Determine the maximum number of students you can have in your classroom for testing and email Mike or Anna by Monday @ 3 pm.
- If you need dividers for your classroom let Mike or Anna know by Monday @ 3 pm.
- Remind your students to have ear buds/headphones by Thursday, Mar. 5th this week. Once they bring them, they should keep them in their Chromebook case. Thursday, March 5th in Advisory, you will be preforming the testing app check. All students must do the app check, so keep track of who has and has not completed it to ensure everyone has it done by March 10th. The app check info is in the Advisory slides. If a student's app is not working properly, email Trish immediately to ensure it is fixed prior to testing.
Scheduled Internet Outage
We will be upgrading our internet connection on March 10th, starting at 4:00 pm. Internet connectivity will be down while the upgrade is in progress. We expect the outage to be brief, but it could last 1-1.5 hours if we run into unforeseen problems.
