Facts on Neptune
By: Levi Wilson
Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun. The origin of Neptune is from the Greek god Poseidon and the distance from the sun is 2.8 billion miles away. The length of day is 16 hours and 6 minutes and the length of year is 164 days.
Moons
Neptune has 13 moons that we know of, but it is difficult to see the worlds that they hold.
Great Dark Spot
The "Great Dark Spot" is a dark oval shape on the surface, but we don't know if it is still active if it is still present.
Rings
Neptune has six rings that orbit the planet. They are to be fairly new. The rings have a varying thickness throughout the rings.
More Neptune Facts
Neptune's temperature range from high to low is HIGH=290 F, LOW=270 F. Neptune is 8 and a half pounds heavier. The atmosphere is made up of Hydrogen, Helium, and Methane. Neptune's circular orbit is offset from the Sun. At times, Neptune's orbit takes it further from the Sun than any other planet in the Solar System. In 2011, Neptune will complete its first orbit around the Sun since it was discovered in 1846.
