NEWS FROM DR. CHAUSSEE
Parental Involvement…
One of the best actions a parent can take is to get involved in their child’s education. That can take many forms and look many different ways. As a principal, I I rely on research to direct much of what we do at Abbott. I could site many examples of research and ways to get involved. There is research that shows that parental involvement in their child’s education is the #1 factor in their child’s success at school.
One way to become involved is through the PTO. When I started at Abbott we had a very strong and active PTO. Through fundraising and good management, the PTO provided Abbott with much of what we have today as far as the building and grounds. Most all of the playground equipment was paid from PTO funds. Our library is beautiful thanks to over $40,000 from the PTO over a four year period. The PTO has paid for many of the ceiling-mounted projectors in the classrooms.
However, over the last few years there has been a reduction in the number of people attending our PTO meetings. Attending a PTO meeting will not suddenly make your child smarter, run faster, and have more friends. But, our PTO is one big reason why Abbott is such a successful school and we continue to attract many families outside our attendance area. So, take some time to volunteer at your child’s school by becoming involved in the PTO. There’s no fee to join!
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Construction Update:
It appears the construction crews are going to move the crosswalk back to the north side of the 156th & Burt/Cuming intersection next week or early the week after Thanksgiving.
There is a need to construct a temporary transition for both cars and pedestrians until traffic is shifted to the new lanes. The change to the new traffic lanes is expected near the end of December.
