Origins of the Islamic Religion
- Origin: Started in the 7th century in the Middle East, according to the current era of Islam.
- It was founded upon the teachings of the Muhammad prophet as an expression to surrender to the will of Allah
- Beliefs: The Quran shows the text of the teaching of the prophets “that were revealed to him before Allah
- Islam is basically the belief that Allah is the one and true god and that no other god and/or partner is equal to him
- Classification:Universalizing religion
- Branches/Divisions: Has many branches with lots of variety within the branches. Has two main divisions, Sunni and Shi'a, both of these have different views on “maintaining religious authority”.
Geographic Distribution
Islam diffused by Muslims migrating to many different parts and conquering them.
Since it is a universalizing religion, Islam is practiced in most of the world, but is dominated in the middle east, most of Northern Africa, and most of Southeast Asia (Indonesia).
⅓ of the world’s population is Islamic. Islam religion is the 2nd largest population in the world and growning. Due to the fact that it is globally accepted, there are Islam’s all over the world, but the main concentrations are in the Middle East, Northern Africa, and most of Southeast Asia.
