Quick Updates

  • We will be meeting with our kindergarten PAWS pals on Wednesday, November 27. They have invited us to join in on their Thanksgiving feast. The kinders will be providing the food. I need a few families to donate juice boxes for the celebration. These can be brought in at any time.
  • Your child will be bringing home a purple folder today with the assessments from 1st quarter. Reference these when looking at his/her grades in Power School. Remember that I gave you the unit 1 math test at conferences. Let me know if you have any questions.
  • If you need to send in cough drops, please fill out the form that is linked below and send it to school. I will then keep the cough drops on my desk and dispense as needed.

Reading and Writing

The students have been busy learning about nonfiction features. We have one more left, tables, that we will discuss next week. This week the students explored the Pebble Go website, which is located under library resources on the Suamico home page. They narrowed down topics and began to take notes on one. Next week the students will begin writing an informational report using their notes. In computer lab the students will also begin a Google presentation on a nonfiction book.

In math we have been working on double digit addition with and without regrouping and counting money. Reinforce counting real change at home with your child to practice.

We also began Count Mathula where I time the kids everyday on facts. When they pass then they move onto the next level. Continue practicing at home. They get three seconds per problem when it is timed.

Social Studies

We began learning about maps and where we live. We will spend a few weeks on this unit. The students will need to be able to tell where they live, such as Village of Suamico, state of Wisconsin, country of U.S.A. and continent of North America. The second graders will also need to identify each on a map including the seven continents, a compass rose, map key, Mexico and Canada.
