BSD Briefs
June 1, 2020
District Goal: WE empower all students to achieve post-high school success.
Congratulations to the nearly 2,500 seniors who will graduate from the Beaverton School District’s six comprehensive high schools, the Arts & Communication Magnet Academy, Health & Science School, the International School of Beaverton, Early College High School, School of Science & Technology, Merlo Station Community School, and GED programs this summer.
During what would have been their graduation month, we are recognizing the accomplishments, perseverance and resilience of the Class of 2020. They comprise a diverse and distinguished group of scholars and scientists, artists and athletes, innovators and community servants. They have already made their mark in the world, but the best is yet to come!
Even through the extremely trying last few months of their high school careers, the Class of 2020 has earned millions in scholarships to date, and includes two Presidential Scholar Semifinalists, six National Merit Scholars and many student athletes who will be attending college on athletic scholarships.
Students in the Class of 2020 will be heading directly into the global workforce, having gained industry certifications and valuable, real-world experience through internships, apprenticeships, concurrent enrollment courses and Career and Technical Education classes.
During their high school years, members of the Class of 2020 took hundreds of Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate classes. They earned All-State honors in dance, band, choir, jazz band and orchestra. They won team or individual state championships in multiple sports and state and national recognition in a myriad of activities. They also performed a wide variety of classic and contemporary plays and musicals.
But perhaps their greatest accomplishment is the fact that they made their schools, community and world a better place by helping others through community service. For example, they raised thousands of dollars and volunteered thousands of hours supporting students and families in the Beaverton community as well as organizations including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Sparrow Clubs USA, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and many more.
Congratulations to the Class of 2020!

High School Summer Program Information
Summer School will be offered as remote learning for 2020. There are two programs this summer:
Intensive Summer Version Math Courses
Intensive Summer Version (ISV) courses are designed for students who seek advancement in a course sequence that a standard 4-year high school schedule will not allow. These courses provide the same content coverage and rigor as their classroom counterparts but in a highly accelerated format.
If you have questions regarding ISV, please contact bsd-flex-online@beaverton.k12.or.us
Credit Recovery, Original Credit and 8.5 Courses:
Original credit, credit recovery, and enrichment courses are offered to all eligible students in the district. Incoming 9th graders may take original credit or earn .5 elective credit with successful completion of 8.5.
If you have questions regarding Summer Programs, please contact your neighborhood school summer coordinator.
Visit the BSD Flex 2020 High School Summer Program webpage for information and to register.
Remember to take the 2020 Annual Parent Survey
Please take a few moments to complete the BSD Annual Parent Survey! This year, we would like to know about your experience with remote learning while schools have been closed. Our goal is to ensure that every member of our school community feels welcomed, valued, and informed, so it is important for all parents/guardians to complete the survey.
A link to the 2020 Annual Parent Survey was sent to all valid parent email addresses on Tuesday, May 26, 2020. The deadline to participate is next Monday, June 8, 2020.
