From the Nest

This newsletter provides information on activities and concerns of sixth grade students and teachers. For more detailed information on individual subject areas, please refer to the teacher's School Fusion page, linked beneath their picture below. For information on school wide events and initiatives, please visit the Pennington homepage. If you have a question or concern, please email us directly using the information below.

Mr. Anderson - Language Arts

We will have our weekly vocabulary, continue with the poetry unit and preview the Spring Book Fair on Friday. I have updated the online grade book, and will do so once more before the end of the term. I am hoping to include the most recent essay assignment, which was due today, but April is a very demanding month, and I can't guarantee those essays will be graded in time for report cards this term. I'll do my best.

Ms. Bosse - Math

This week we explored surface area and volume of rectangular prisms. Ask your child what a NET is. We are wrapping up this unit. We will quiz on Area, Surface Area and Volume on Monday. Test Review on Tuesday and the test will be Wednesday, April 13th. The next unit is Data Analysis.

Mr. Cardone - Social Studies

This week we will be starting our New Nation unit by examining the Articles of Confederation and the US Constitution. All students did a great job on our American Revolution test but if they can redo a section they should see me next week during enrichment.

Mr. Cardone - Science

On Monday we will be having or unit test on Earth's Water. Study guides went home last week and all notes and powerpoints were put up on school fusion. Our next unit is going to be on the watershed.

Introduction to World Languages – 6th grade – 18 weeks

¡Bienvenidos! Welcome! We have begun to learn about the Spanish culture and its language. We will be learning how to greet people formally and informally too. ¡Hasta pronto!

Community Service Opportunity

In need of a 'handy person' to cut some wood, pvc pipe and build a very simple platform. If you have tools and need some community service hours this may be for YOU! Materials will be purchased by Pennington. Contact Mrs. Bosse for more information.

Travel & Absences

We understand that families may need to travel outside of scheduled school holidays, but Prince William County's policy is that work will be provided to students upon their return. The sixth grade teachers recommend that you email us when an extended absence will be taking place, as the office form takes some time to process. If feasible teachers will reply with how your child can stay on-track with the class.
