We will post new scholarships at the top of the newsletter; the rest will be listed in order by deadline. We will remove scholarships once their deadline has passed. NEW! Jesse J. Washington Memorial Scholarship
The Jesse J. Washington Memorial Scholarship fund celebrates students who plan to continue their education through certification from local trade schools, community college, or university with an emphasis on applied sciences. Mr. Washington was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Jesse was an accomplished mechanic with certifications from Lincoln Technical Institute and General Motors working for US Steel, Summerfield GMC Truck Company, Hackett Engineering and the Levy Company before becoming a full-time entrepreneur. He owned and J & D Automotive in Gary, Indiana. This scholarship was established to honor his hard work, dedication, and entrepreneurial spirit in giving back to his community. Mr. Washington served God, his family and his country. Students who possess similar interests in mechanical technology, automotive science or industrial enterprise are encouraged to apply.

- Curious and interested in entrepreneurial opportunities

NEW! INDIANA LATINO INSTITUTE SCHOLARSHIP
About
The Indiana Latino Institute (ILI) Scholarship was created as a means to address the under-representation of Latinos in post-secondary education. The goal is to encourage Latino students in Indiana to pursue higher education and engage in community service. In order to accomplish this goal, ILI will provide scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Eligibility:
- Students must be planning to enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester in the
- 2023-2024 academic year
- Students must be between the ages of 17 and 25 at the time of submission
- Demonstrate academic achievement (minimum 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale)
- Demonstrate financial need
- Document ongoing community service involvement
- Preference given to Latino students residing in Indiana who are first generation college students
Deadline:
Application materials must be submitted online by May 31, 2023.
Notification:
Award letters will be sent to scholarship recipients by July 18, 2023.
Scholarship recipients are required to enroll in the ILI College Coaching program and to volunteer at the ILI Annual Luncheon (Fall 2023, date TBD).
Scholarship Application Checklist:

- Discuss a time when you experienced a hardship and what you did to overcome it.
- Discuss how your cultural background has motivated your academic and career goals.

NEW! Delta Kappa Gamma Society Education Scholarship for Females
To apply, return the completed application to the committee and address listed below by Monday, June 5, 2023. Please ensure that all four recommendation letters have been included with this application form and your personal statement. Your guidance department will provide us with official transcripts including seventh semester grades, cumulative GPA and SAT/ACT scores. These will be forwarded by the guidance chairperson to Delta Kappa Gamma, ℅ Melissa Watroba by June 5, 2023. Application packets must be complete when submitted; packets which are missing components will be disqualified.

Stop the Bleed Scholarship Program - Multiple Scholarships!
Requirements:
- In order to be eligible for the National Scholarships, you must be a student attending high school in the United States and its territories. Home schooled students who would otherwise be attending high school are also eligible. In order to be eligible for the Frontline Families Scholarships, you must have a parent or guardian who is a frontline worker.
- When you submit your application, you will receive an email confirmation and your parent/guardian and school point of contact will receive a notification.
- Students can apply once for the National Scholarships and, if eligible, can also apply for the Frontline Families Scholarships.
- If you are submitting a video, double check the URL before you add it to the application form to ensure it is working. Also, make sure you have the “public” setting for it turned on.
- If you are submitting an essay, include your name (first, last) and your email address at the top of the page.

Winning students for National Scholarships and the Frontline Families Scholarships will receive their scholarship monetary award by July 30, 2023, and their schools will be contacted to coordinate for the delivery of their Stop the Bleed Kits in September 2023.

The Ford Auto Tech Scholarship
We are excited to announce the Ford Auto Tech Scholarship Program, designed to support students pursuing a career as an automotive technician. In collaboration with Ford Dealers, the Ford Fund welcomes the next generation of auto technicians by awarding $5,000 ($2,500 per semester) scholarships for tuition to financially-struggling students pursuing careers in auto and auto/diesel technology.
This scholarship is an opportunity for students to receive financial assistance to help with the costs of their education, thanks to the generous support of the Ford Fund and the TechForce Foundation.
At LNESC, we understand the importance of investing in the next generation of students to make the dream of attending college a reality. This is why we are partnering with the Ford Fund and TechForce to offer this scholarship to students who are passionate about pursuing a degree or certificate in automotive technology (including diesel).
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must fit the following criteria:
- Any individual (high school graduates, career-changing adults, veterans, reskill, etc.) pursuing a degree or certificate in automotive technology (including diesel) in the greater Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, and Phoenix areas shown in the map.

- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or approved DACA status
- Must demonstrate financial need to apply
- Be an enrolled future student -or- an active, current automotive or auto/diesel student at a post-secondary Institution in good standing
- Have a completed and approved FAFSA with an EFC under 30,000 on file at campus. DACA students will have financial need verified by campus.

Kids Chance of Indiana
1. To begin the application process the student or the parent or guardian should open up the scholarship application (below). Hopefully, the process of filling out the application is is easy and all information requested is available to you. The determination of the amount of your scholarship is primarily based upon the financial needs of the student. Therefore the information concerning finances is extremely important and should be filled out in its entirety. It is also important that you provide information to us that you have attempted to seek the benefits of all federal grants, aids and loans.
2. Kids chance of Indiana has a special Scholarship Committee devoted to reviewing your application. One of the members of that committee will voluntarily spend the time necessary to make sure your application is in proper form and if necessary contact you for additional information. That individual is very important to the processing of your application and therefore please make sure you stay in contact with that individual.
3. Once the application is in final form, Kids Chance has developed a system whereby the approval of the application and the amount to be allocated to the scholarship is seamless and expeditious. From the time you have your application in final form to the time that you are informed of the amount of your scholarship, no more than 60 days should elapse, with some exceptions.
4. All scholarship funds are disbursed to the bursar’s office at your designated school.
5. In order to maintain your scholarship it is important that you maintain a satisfactory academic performance and send to your kids chance contact verification of class enrollment and your semester’s grade report. You must reapply every semester showing evidence of your continuation of an academic program and your recent past successes academically.

CAF Scholarships for Tradespeople (Northwest Indiana)
The CAF Scholarship for Tradespeople is intended to support construction trade professionals who are looking to earn their bachelor’s degree in Project Leadership at Purdue University Northwest. The CAF will distribute thousands of dollars of scholarship money every year to numerous construction trade workers. Scholarship amounts will vary based on the number of annual applications. The minimum amount awarded to scholarship winners will not be less than $1000.
Eligibility Requirements
- Award recipient must be a U.S. citizen
- Award recipient must be enrolled in the ‘Project Leadership’ bachelor’s degree program at Purdue University Northwest
- Award recipient must be at least a 3rd year apprentice at time of application
Use of Funds
Scholarship funds are restricted to tuition and associated registration fees. Payments will be made directly to Purdue upon receipt of an invoice for tuition.

CollegeBoard Scholarship Opportunities Class of 2024 - Start now!
Earn entries in monthly drawings for $500 and $40,000 scholarships by completing steps to plan for life after high school. Every month, BigFuture will award hundreds of $500 scholarships and two $40,000 scholarships until February of your senior year. The scholarships awarded by BigFuture can be used at two and four year institutions.
Complete these steps by the end of February of your senior year!
How to file the FAFSA
Students can file the FAFSA online at FAFSA.gov. The first step for students who have not previously filed the FAFSA is to create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. Then, each student will need:
- Social Security number
- Alien Registration number (for non-U.S. citizens)
- Federal income tax returns, W-2s and other records of money earned from 2021
- Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
- Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
The U.S. Department of Education provides email and live chat assistance for FAFSA filers as well as a helpline at 1-800-4-FED-AID. Hoosier families can also access free FAFSA help through INvestEd Indiana at www.investedindiana.org.
2023–24 Academic Year
The FAFSA form must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. CT on June 30, 2023. Any corrections or updates must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. CT on Sept. 14, 2023.
