4th Grade IS The Place To Be!
ELA: This week we talked about how important it is to "read like writers" and bring our stories to life with adjectives. We practiced using adjectives in our writing and are on the look out in our independent books for descriptive adjectives to jot in our writers notebooks!
Next week: We'll learn about "Close Reading"
Math: Check in with your child re: his/her math rotations and progress! At this point students should be familiar with the area model for multiplication (YES, we know it's much different then what you're used to do when solving multiplication problems BUT IT WORKS and really helps solidify number sense / place values with the students!)
Next week: Your child will be getting his/her "checklist" where they can show you what skills they are focusing on in class!
Writing: Today was the drafting deadline for our realistic fiction pieces! We have been working on becoming better writers today then we were yesterday and now we will begin teaching the revision writing moves!
WtW: New Sort Groups Monday!
Science: This week we began studying the PHEOC Model (also known as the scientific process) --See below what PHEOC stands for! We are learning how important it is to pay close attention to procedures and observations when presented with a problem. Over the next few weeks students will strengthen their skills in using this process and eventually conduct an experiment of their choice to demonstrate their understanding of the PHEOC model.
