El Niño & La Niña
By: Abby Ling
When is the next time we will have a La Niña?
The previous summer of 2012 was an El Niño so I was wondering when the next we would have an La Niña. If the El Niños happen for about 12 to 18 months, then the next time type of weather we have will be mostly likely normal conditions.
What will come next? El Niño or La Niña?
Lately experts have been examining the weather patterns and noticed we might have a normal summer. They said it looked like a La Niña but the trade winds weren't strong enough and the atmospheric conditions weren't just right yet. Not even a fourth of the models for early March and April predict that we will have a weak or borderline La Niña, but almost all of the models determined that we would have a neutral year. No models at all predict an El Niño year for March to May.
Future Prediction
I believe that this summer will have normal conditions. Based on data that experts have gathered, the trade winds are neither strong enough nor weak enough to have an El Niño nor La Niña.
