Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families—This time of the school year I start to reflect on our journey and all the experiences and moments that are created in a single year. It’s staggering to look back from September and remember all the schoolwide activities, group and team achievements, and individual highlights from so many of our students doing amazing things. Five years ago, this month, I assembled the first core group of teachers to begin creating CVSD’s future 3rd Comprehensive High School. That’s what we were known as for almost a full year. Obviously, it was important to create an identity asap so our future students and families could connect with their new school. Always at the core of our planning was this idea to create something special in our new high school. We talked about a lot of out-of-the-box concepts, but the world (and cost) kind of shut us down on being “too different”. So, we knew we had to focus on what is in our locus of control. So that’s where we directed more of our energy. We focused on the question of CULTURE. How do you actually create an environment where 1500 students and over 100 staff share some common beliefs and regularly demonstrate behaviors that are consistent with our beliefs?
Nearly all of our students wrote appreciation letters/notes to staff during staff appreciation week. In many messages I read, students wrote about how grateful they were to be a part of Ridgeline. Or, how they feel like they were connected and able to enjoy school again. That’s why ‘moments’ are so important!
SPECIAL NOTICE FOR SENIORS: Soon you will be receiving a notice of outstanding fines and fees. It has been district practice to withhold graduating seniors diplomas if they still have fees outstanding. The notice will include how and where to access this information through our district web page.
Make it a great weekend as we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country so we could live a life of freedom. –Mr. Hardt

Wear your College shirt day- Wednesday, May 31st
Next fall I’m going to?...
Next Wednesday, May 31, the Counseling and Student Services staff will invite seniors who’ve indicated their post-secondary educational plans (i.e. college attendance, military service, trade school enrollment, and/or apprenticeship participation) to take pictures in their representative garb! Please help your seniors remember to wear sweatshirts, tees, and polos that represent where they will continue their educations or serve our country! If your student hasn’t completed the Senior Survey and s/he wants to participate, please have your student complete the survey Mr. Spraggins sent out via Google Classroom!
Have a Budding Journalists?
Is your student interested in someday joining the ranks of those who do the hard but necessary work of keeping the rest of us well-informed? If your answer to that question is "yes" the Spokesman Review might have the optimal opportunity!
The Teen Journalism Institute is literally a one-of-a-kind opportunity, offering 16-18 year-old high school students the chance to become paid interns (only US newspaper that offers this), working alongside established journalists in our region. This summer program begins June 26, and will run for eight weeks. The application is now open and is due June 9 (though, notably, the Spokesman will offer early applications preference).
For more information, please access this link!
Do you have a current junior preparing to apply to college next fall?
If your answer to the above question is “yes”, please plan to join Mr. Spraggins (bspraggins@cvsd.org) and Ms. McMurtrey (mmcmurtrey@cvsd.org) for a college exploration and admission session next Thursday, June 1, from 6:30 – 7:30 PM in the RHS Theater. In addition to the college exploration and admission processes, we will be joined by the Gonzaga University Financial Aid Director, Sarah Everitt, who will outline the financial aid process (i.e. FAFSA filing, scholarship searches, and other financial aid topics). If you have questions, please contact Mr. Spraggins.

2nd Annual Job Fair
On May 18th, Ridgeline hosted its 2nd annual Job Fair to help our Falcons find summer & post-high-school jobs as well as apprenticeships, internships, and volunteer opportunities. We are grateful to the 46 employers and businesses who showed up with attractive table displays, free swag, and donated prizes for our Job Fair BINGO to get our students fully engaged in interacting with them. All seniors, juniors, and sophomores were invited to attend during 5th and 6th periods. Our overarching goal is to help our community businesses connect directly with our students, and to give our students the experience of attending a job fair where they can work on their interpersonal networking skills. The businesses were very complimentary of our Ridgeline students. Way to represent, Falcons!
Multicultural Night
Many of our Ridgeline students participated in an all-district Multicultural Night at CV last Friday. We had 16 different cultures represented with traditional food, dances, clothing, and artifacts. Our Diversity Club worked hard to bring us this 2nd annual event, and we thank everyone who participated and who came to check it out! We hope to continue putting on this event each year, so look for it again next May
