The Fun Run was a great success!!

Our Claxton Fun Run this morning was a HUGE success! To everyone who supported our school and came out to the Fun Run, THANK YOU! Parents, all pledges are due October 20th. Pay online at or checks can be made payable to Claxton PTO. Thanks again for generously supporting Claxton!

Health Fair is next week and we need YOU!

Claxton is looking for volunteers to help at our annual Health Fair on Wednesday, October 18th to assist with guiding students through the health stations and recording data for the medical staff. The schedule is flexible and you can sign up for any health station you prefer - BMI, Vision and Dental. This event’s goal is to inspire our students to choose healthy lifestyles and Claxton needs your help to make it a success!

The Claxton Directory is going DIGITAL!

Our PTO has subscribed to the MySchoolAnywhere service for our family and faculty directories. It's secure, easy to use, and free to families.

The family directory helps to build community with better communication among Claxton parents, students, and families. You can connect with a classroom peer for playdates/parties or reach out for help if you have a question about an assignment!

There are 2 ways to register: simply click on the link below or go directly to the site, enter our school code, and follow the steps to register your family.

You specify what information you'd like to appear in the directory – email, phone, address – or any combination - or choose not to appear at all. There are options to enter one or two parents and/or two households. Only current Claxton families will have access to the directory and your information is secure and never given to 3rd parties.

The Fall Carnival is around the corner!

One of our biggest fundraisers of the year (and arguably the most fun for families!) is the Claxton Fall Carnival. Food, games, bouncy castle and the famous Haunted Hall, all of it can be a huge success with the help of our Claxton community. It's easy to volunteer a small amount of time while your students enjoy the carnival - sign up here!

Get your paws dirty with the Bear Pack!

The Claxton Bear Pack will be spreading mulch on our new playground Tuesday, October 17th from 6-8pm. More hands, less work! The Bear Pack is a loose collection of Claxton dads and similar ilk providing the school with a corps of on-call low to mid-skilled laborers to help our teachers give our kids the best experience possible, and they would love you to join their ranks!

Eblen Charities Walk, Run or Roll 2017

Tomorrow’s the big day! Be sure to join ACS on Saturday, October 14th for a morning filled with prizes, music, on-route entertainment and a really great race shirt. Last year, more than 600 walkers participated in raising $30,000+ that directly went to aiding thousands of local families with medication, food, heat, rent and other emergency assistance.

Online registration closed on October 10th, but don’t worry. Here’s a printable registration form. Simply print it off, and for the section that says Name of Affiliation, School, Business or Team put #TheACSWay.

Also, we’ll be taking a photo of all Asheville City Schools participants near the starting line at 8:50 PM. The race map can be found here.

October is Principal Appreciation Month

October is Principal Appreciation Month, and as you know, Asheville City Schools is home to the world's top school leaders. Send an email to Ashley Thublin explaining why you love your school's principal (any ACS school, but we may be partial to a certain orange-necktie-wearing leader) so much. Or, send ACS a tweet using the hashtag #TheACSWay!

Box Tops 4 Education

Did you know that the money that Claxton receives from the Box Tops 4 Education program directly benefits Coach Swain's PE program?! Claxton is ALWAYS collecting Box Tops, and we want your help!

You can start by clipping the Box Tops off approved products you already have in your pantry. You don't need to clip the actual product UPC — just the Box Tops logo will do. From frozen foods to produce and household cleaning products, there are literally hundreds of opportunities to help, and each Box Top is worth 10 cents. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it adds up fast. Box Tops are collected in the clear plastic bears located in the front hallway and gymnatorium.

There are so many participating companies! Participating companies and product lines include General Mills, Green Giant, Totino's, Pillsbury, Old El Paso, Ziploc, Hefty, Juicy Juice, Betty Crocker and many more. Here is a link to the participating brands.

The Box Tops 4 Education program offers new discount coupons on popular brands each month and also offers benefits for online purchases! Click here to see this month's offers.

Clip those tops and lets fill those bears for Coach Swain!

Claxton Elementary is going GREEN!

We want to improve school-to-home communication and connection with easy online access to important Thursday Folder information while saving time, money and trees! If you would like to help reduce waste and receive Thursday Folder information online, please click the link below. You will be sent a link to the Thursday Folder packet in PDF form weekly. Your information will only be used for school-approved communication. Please be aware that even though you choose to go paperless, there still might be communication that requires a flyer be sent home for response. This is an additional sign-up option, if you returned the paper request that went home in Thursday folders, you are already on the list!
