Mad About Math!
This semester 5/6B and stage 3 have worked hard on Math Talk Moves and Number Talks. The students are learning to increase their student to student interactions with more meaningful conversations using these five concepts.
1/ Revoicing
2/ Repeating
3/ Reasoning
4/ Adding On
5/ Wait Time
5/6B worked very hard on Reasoning and Adding on during our Maths lessons. We will continue to build in these areas throughout Semester Two. Students also strengthen their skills on written and mental strategies for Addition, Subtraction., Multiplication and Division.
Sensational Science Stuff!
In Term 1, students studied Earth and space, comparing key features of the planets of our solar system and researched how Aboriginal culture influences cultural events. We went to the Space Centre at Wollongong and saw some amazing experiments with the effect of heat on properties and behaviour of materials. As well we got to play with some cool gadgets and games at the centre. The students got to experience inside a planetarium, viewed some planets like Saturn and Jupiter close up and watched an amazing video of 'We are stars' on the large projector. For most students this would be an out of this world experience!! In Term 2, students used 3D printing technology to engage in the design and production of their group project. They also used Minecraft to enter into a Liverpool City Council competition in designing the new Aerotropolis/Airport. They will use clay to create Claymation and use their writing scripts to develop their characters and use green screens to make a short video of their story on friendship.

Lastly, a big thank you to all the students of 5/6B for working so hard throughout this term and to all the wonderful mums and dads and guardians for your on going support this semester! Please continually check your child's bag and our school website for current events at our school and please contact the school or see me if you have any concerns about anything.
We are low in class supply of glue sticks and tissues and is much needed, if you could send some with your child to our class, that would be greatly appreciated.
Have a wonderful break boys and girls! Rest well and stay safe ready for another super busy semester ahead. Happy Holidays!!!
Your Teacher,
Mrs Bawa
